Why to bet your sets on the flop (brag thread)

Ciderman checked his trips/straight redraw on the flop and gave me a free draw on my low-- which I gladly accepted. When the 7 falls on the turn, I have the straight draw and a nut low draw, with 3 other players I am obviously priced to draw no matter what the action is.

After this $1400 scoop, Ciderman berated the table for about 5 minutes, but clearly this was his own fault-- what a mistake.

This is the biggest hand I've won--- SO FAR!

ya what a mistake, he only got all-in 3 way in a nothing pot on the turn with 43% equity vs 33% and 24%

Sorry dude, but .328 was his equity on the turn:

pokenum -o8 ad 2c 5h 6h - jc jd kh 9c - 4h 6s th qd - td tc ks 9s -- 4c jh qs 7d
Omaha Hi/Low 8-or-better: 32 enumerated boards containing Qs 4c 7d Jh
cards scoop HIwin HIlos HItie LOwin LOlos LOtie EV
2c Ad 6h 5h 4 4 28 0 19 0 0 0.359
Jc 9c Jd Kh 6 14 17 1 0 0 0 0.328
6s Qd Th 4h 2 2 30 0 0 0 0 0.062
Ks 9s Tc Td 4 11 20 1 0 0 0 0.250

I was the favorite at that point with .359. Compare that to his equity if he bets the flop (and chases my hand out) which is .578. And at least one of the remaining hands would have called his bet.

pokenum -o8 jc jd kh 9c - 4h 6s th qd - td tc ks 9s -- 4c jh qs 7d / ad 2c 5h 6h
Omaha Hi/Low 8-or-better: 32 enumerated boards containing Qs 4c 7d Jh
cards scoop HIwin HIlos HItie LOwin LOlos LOtie EV
Jc 9c Jd Kh 18 18 13 1 0 0 0 0.578
6s Qd Th 4h 2 2 30 0 0 0 0 0.062
Ks 9s Tc Td 11 11 20 1 0 0 0 0.359

Please learn how to play, AND use a hand odds calculator.

oops didn't see the 4th hand. oh and if that's the largest pot you've won you really shouldn't be telling other people to learn how to play

Good point! Feel free to ignore players, completely misquote pot-equities and disregard the advice. This is an EPIC first post for you in the PLO8 forum. Can't wait for the next installment.

By the way, you missed the entire point of the thread. I didn't fault Ciderman for getting it all-in on the turn, I faulted him for checking a very favorable flop with his set, when there are a high percentage of turn cards (any suited or low card) which would radically weaken him multi-way on the turn, and could put him behind.

Word of advice -- being new and being a douche don't go well together.

So we should be getting rid of Micro-Limt, SSHE, SSHUSH, and SSNL forums because the people giving advice there haven't won gigantic pots?

Shut the [censored] up, please.

Gamble gamble I guess but still, your hand ain't "that" good.
It turned out ok tho but being up against 3 high hands in this spot gotta be pretty rare.

No it wasn't that great a hand at all-- just a favorable situation that paid off huge If you can get all in, on a 4 way pot with 36% equity you have played correctly. I'll grant you that was about the best scenario I could have hoped for for the range of opponents' cards, I did not expect that I was THE favorite, only that I had better than pot odds to call. I actually called the first Pot bet on the turn instead of raising so if I missed I could still get away from the hand, and to keep the other two players in the hand to improve my odds, but I figured all of the chips would go in, and 40% of the time I would get stacked. I was hoping that the "8" was a live card form my hi (which it was not). That would have given me significantly more equity.

When I said "Brag thread" it had more to do with winning my biggest pot ever than any great play on my part.

I just found it note-worthy how much money the checked flop cost Cidarman-- which I think was a little over $1000! I think there is a lesson to be learned from his play there.
