Sports Trivia: Names of the Pro Sports Awards

I thought this might be fun. I was having a discussion elsewhere about the how the NHL is the league that names their awards after people more often than others. This led me to inquire about the names of trophies in other leagues, to see how many had any special honorees/titles. Below are the big 4 sports with a list of awards in each (I stuck to yearly and playoff awards). I simplified the descriptions in many cases, leaving out “best” and “of the year” a lot to keep this cleaner. Quote this post and see how many you can name without looking them up. I’ll post spoilerized answers in a little bit. Some are tough, some are very straightforward. Let me know if I missed any major ones, or go ahead and do the same for another sport. NCAA football has a million.

jesus this is ridiculously hard. I used to know a few of the other hockey awards, but now all I know is the Stanley Cup. In the NBA, I know the Larry O'Brien is the Championship. The NFL is the Vince Lombardi Trophy. Beyond that I have no idea.

oops - i thought this was about renaming awards, not just naming them

i could do this for hockey but most of the others i'd have a hard time

Re: Sports Trivia: Name the Pro Sports Awards

Damn, all I got was Rawlings Gold Glove, Silver Slugger, Hank Aaron, Cy Young, Rolaids Relief(hank aaron, Rolaids, and rawlings thanks to MLB The Show), Roberto Clemente(delgado won it last year), Lombardi Trophy, Pete Rozelle Trophy, Stanley Cup, and Venzia(thanks Brodeur).

So yeah, Video games led to me knowing about 1/3 of what I actually knew.

I always found the NHL nice guy one easy to remember because it's named after a chick, and nice guys are pussies.

I haven't looked at DKSr's answers, though I'm pretty sure I could do all the hockey ones. The other sports, with the exception of the real common ones (i.e. Lombardi trophy), are all frickin' tough for me

Re: Sports Trivia: Name the Pro Sports Awards

some of them, like sixth man and most improved, were really frickin' dumb to list if they're really just "Sixth Man Award" and "Most Improved Player Award".

Also, I knew way more baseball ones than I gave myself credit for. For some reason I was thinking just of trophy names.

Quite a few names among the college sports awards too. Beginning with Heisman obviously.
