Laptop and 30\" Monitor

Goal: Laptop that I can use on the train to play via Sprint wireless card and as my primary machine at home.
* Needs to be semi portable (I'm not looking to drag a desktop replacement style machine with me each day).
* Ablity to doc and run a 30" Monitor when I am at home.

Suggestions? Experiences?

the video card will be the most important part.

Any Core 2 Duo system or probably even Pentium Dual-Core (Core2Duo with less on board cache) and a 1GB or 2GB of RAM will suffice i am sure.

I had to buy a 24" because my laptop could not run the 30" monitors.

I have never owned or used a mac. Would a macBook pro be my best option even though I will need to boot it into XP 90% of the time?

I will also need to purchase a copy of XP in addition to the Macbook pro in order to run pokerstars, pt, hud, etc

right?

A MBP will scream running XP, yes you will need to buy a copy of XP. Unless you got a copy with an old computer and aren't using the computer anymore. It's doubtful a restore disk will work in a different computer but you might get lucky.
