I'm no donkament expert, but couldn't it be beneficial to keep a 4th player in while you are the chip leader because people tend to play passive while on the bubble, allowing you to steal lots of blinds?

thing is this isn't a good thread. A good level needs to have an element of doubt involved so people (other than morons) actually fall for it or at least acknowledge the possibility of it not being a level.
