So you're saying that a select group of relatively wealthy people lost a percentage point or two recently? It's hard to see that as too troubling when truly poor people in India, China, and elsewhere (though not yet Africa, sadly) are doing so well.

You do realize that average real earnings can go up or down in an expanding economy, and vice versa in a recession.

If you add jobs at the low end of the wage scale, even if real wages go up for every person who was already working, average real wage can still go down.

Also real wages are not a terribly good proxy for standard of living because it ignores numerous factors, such as improvements in quality, availability etc, and because those statistics are based on CPI (which is primarily focused on necessities) and doesnt reflect other sources of earnings. As boomers start to retire there will also be reductions in average real wage without any declines in standard of living of workers.

As long as we work for the same wages as those 9 year olds in Bangladesh we're ok, right?

It wasn't that average real wage went down. It was that real wages went down for over 95% of working people.

Real wages declining and standards of living rising are not necessarily mutually exclusive.

My reading was that the median wage for several groups of people, together adding up to >95% of people, decreased:

Less than four percent of workers were in educational groups that enjoyed increases in mean real money earnings from 2000 to 2005; mean real money earnings rose for workers with doctorates and professional graduate degrees and fell for all others.

Thanks. Hard to decipher that sentence.

this is such a joke. Making money in this country is laughably easy. Anyone who wants to succeed and can actually rub two brain cells together can and will succeed. It just takes what most people don't have A WORK ETHIC AND A BRAIN. Crying because some mexicans or indians outcompete you is silly.

THEY TUUKK ER JAAAAAABSSSSSS!!
