i finally found a way to get all the data i want and am now building a beautiful updatable excel file that is mad easy (i.e. even i can do it)...

go to www.economagic.com and sign up for $50.00

then go to the "Excel" menu item.

then go to "more" in the first sentence.

right click the thing that ssays "right click to download macro"

save it to wherever you want and open it up (it is an actual excel file that saves the macro just to that excel file and won't open in every new sheet you make). i.e. if you want to make many workbooks, just save it a bunch of different times.

the file is very self explanatory and you have a choice of literally tens of thousands of data series.

absolutely amazing for just 50bucks a year.

at which stage?

you have to login to use the macro. go to "economagic" and then "subscriber login" etc.

then you go to "home page" and you can see the series that are available.

i'm having a ton of issues with it right now and am in communication with their help people (via email unfortunately).

namely, only about 1000 series seem to be available via the macro and there are 200k series total ont he website...but every time i click on the "self updating excel file" link, i get "page cannot be displayed"

sux...but once all these things are ironed out it'll be great.

it was the same for poker for me but the learning curve is waaaaaaayyyyy longer in finance though steeper in poker (you get to "adequate" in poker very fast but it still takes years in finance. further, in poker the amt of work you have to put in to go from "good" to "great" is huge and there isn't THAT much new to learn in poker while in finance that "good" to "great" stage is far deeper and there is an infinity of new stuff to learn all the time)

thanks for your kind words though,
Barron
