Do I have recourse (landlord BS)

The agent of my landlord, who showed me this place that I am renting said that snow removal covered a very long stepped walkway from the apt to the driveway.

Apparently, the agent misrepresented the landlord who has no intention of removing this snow.

Recourse?

Look at your lease. Buy a shovel.

Slip & Fall -- then sue.

All future tenants will benefit as well.

Should have made sure it was a term in your lease! Your word against his.

Have fun shoveling.

Basically your recourse is going to be the same as with most landlord/tenant disputes.

Bitch and moan.

"The agent, acting on your behalf, made it clear that snow removal was part of the deal and I made it clear that me paying rent was part of the deal. Now if the first part of the deal isn't held up, I don't see why I should hold up my end of the bargain. If there is a problem with this, or if the agent misrepresented things, than you can feel free to take it up with him or we can work out a rent deduction and I'll take care of the snow removal."

Similar thing happened to my parents. They rent half a duplex with a huge backyard and the landlord was supposed to do the upkeep, but never did. Eventually, she just started paying my dad per month to take care of it. Basically ended up being a rent reduction in exchange for snow shoveling and lawn mowing.

I'm going to shovel and then send the bill for the labor.
What do you think a good rate for shoveling is?

Realistically? like $8/hr probably... better to hire a Mexican to do it and then bill the landlord double whatever you pay him, call it a contractor's fee.

Let us know when you get the check.

And if you reduce your rent payment to cover the bill, let us know how he responds. This oughta be fun....

while youre at it, why dont you shovel everyone's drive on your block and send them all bills. theyre all about as liable as the landlord if it's not in the lease.

sounds like a good money-making scheme youve discovered.
