When an acronym loses its meaning

I'm talking about NSFW.

The last several NSFW posts I've opened have photos that would be tame in People Magazine for cryin' out loud.

Not safe for work? Maybe if you work for the friggin' Taliban?

NSFW = photo of a woman *not* wearing a burkha.

The mods' position, if I'm not mistaken, is that any large graphic is potentially NSFW, since its less discreet in terms of being not work-related than all text, ala most 2+2 threads.

Hey, as someone who works, what I consider "not safe" is something that has the potential to be bad. Kind of like not wearing a seatbelt or driving through a falling rock zone. If you want an acronym that denotes stuff you like, make your own, stop using ours!

It's good to have an acronym that actually means "not safe for work." But maybe we should also have an acronym for "naked chicks." Because, after all, that's what many people think of when they "check in." "VNSFW" and the like are popping up, I suppose that works.

I think it has to do with prediction of possible responses with embedded pics as well. Like, a "Hot chicks" thread might have a boobie in it at some point.

If you open a thread about Jessica Alba at work and get in trouble for having a bikini pic open, you're an idiot. Don't complain to the mods about it just because you didn't see a NSFW.

I propose that any threads with the name of a woman under 40 in the subject line are assumed to be NSFW, because they will be every time.

posting of pornography is prohibited.

seriously, everyone, just start saying "pics in bikini" or something in the title. initialisms suck.

although at the snopes board we say nfbsk, which is a cooler acronym (Not Safe for British School Kids)
