I enjoy playing at TRUEPOKER, but I am kind of worried.
 

hey guys hows it going? Someone told me to come here with my situation. Anyway, my main site is Truepoker. I like the graphics and little avators, Im James Bond [img]/images/graemlins/smile.gif[/img] Anyway, I had an account there a couple of years ago, and I played on it a lot. Well, after the UIEGA law came into effect, I e-mailed TP to delete my account because I was scared of getting arrested. I had used my NETeller account to fund it. Well, my friend told me its not against the law to play poker, only to make deposits from your bank or something like that. I would like to go back to Truepoker, but I dont want my old account because its associated with my old NETeller and Firepay account ect... Would it be OK if I created a new account? Will I get my funds taken away like that one lady on fulltilt poker? I really dont want to be associated with my old NETeller or Firepay account because of the UIEGA. Thanks guys for all of your help and if I am not allowed to make a new account at Truepoker, where should I play?

From what I've read about it, the UIGEA made it illegal to make specific transfers for the sake of illegal internet gambling, which poker does not specifically fall under the category of. In other words, it's stuff like online sports-betting that's illegal, not poker. Also, they're not targeting players, they're targeting the companies that handle those transactions.

Also, the DoJ probably already has all your Neteller information. The only thing you should possibly fear is an audit if you haven't been paying your taxes. If you still want to create a new account instead of go back to your old one, you should e-mail TruePoker about this issue, and make sure it's OK with them. Although I can't say much for their support as I've sent them two e-mails before (I've never played there, but I was going to check it out) and never received a response. :\

I am going to e-mail support tonight. But my friend Brian told me to come here and ask, that you guys would be able to help me out. I hear TruePoker CEO is really cool, so I just tried to PM him, but his box is full. O well, just my luck lol.

This will help you out...You have no valid reason to create a new account...There is nothing to fear...Based on your post I would suggest you spend some time in the Legislation Forum and catching up..You seem to have many misconceptions...



Congressional Hearing Dispels Internet Poker Myths

~ Annie Duke delivers impassioned testimony to the Judiciary Committee ~

Washington, D.C. (November 14, 2007) – Yesterday the House Judiciary Committee, which has key jurisdiction over Internet gaming matters, held a hearing to discuss the inconsistencies with U.S policy. On behalf of the Poker Players Alliance (PPA), Annie Duke testified along with experts on international trade, age-verification technology and representatives from the Departments of Justice and Treasury.

“At its most basic level, the issue before this committee is personal freedom,” Ms. Duke told the Committee. “More than any other value, America is supposed to be about freedom. Except where one's actions directly and necessarily harm another person's life, liberty or property, government in America is supposed to leave the citizenry alone. Examples of Congress straying from this principle are legion, but few are as egregious as UIGEA,” Duke added.

One key outcome of the hearing was the acknowledgement by the DoJ witness, the Honorable Catherine Hanaway, that it is not illegal for an individual to place a wager on the Internet. This confirmation came during questioning from Congressman Bobby Scott (D-VA) and dispels a common misconception that an Internet poker player may be committing a crime by playing poker online.

Another myth that was dismissed was the misguided belief that Internet gaming sites are bastions for terrorist money laundering. Congressman Howard Coble (R-NC) asked Ms. Hanaway if there was any evidence of Internet gaming sites laundering money for terrorist financing. She responded unequivocally that there is no evidence to that effect.

Finally, the myth that it is impossible to provide protections to keep underage persons off gambling Web sites was completely dismissed by Michael Collopy of Aristotle a leading provider of verification services for child protection online. Collopy delivered compelling testimony outlining a number of products and services available today that are nearly 100 percent effective in keeping children of age-restricted Web sites.

Info in the first couple of posts is wrong.

No, you aren't going to get arrested for having a neteller account or one that is associated with TruePoker.

No, making bets on sports isn't illegal.
I believe that the UIGEA specifies that the banks or CC's are breaking the law if they knowingly process such transactions.
But the players or bettors themselves are not breaking the law as is reiterated in the above post.

It is true that they definitely seem more concerned with sports-betting than poker players. But it's easy to do either one on many various sites throughout the U.S. and no, you aren't going to get arrested for it.


OP can open his old TP account if that's what he wants to do and the fact that it was associated with an old neteller account does not mean he's going to get arrested.

In the U.S. there are literally thousands and thousands of players on PokerStars and FullTilt and other sites playing on the very same accounts that they had originally funded with neteller. And I don't think any of them are worried about being arrested for it nor should they be.
