Do you know a good poker room in London, near Gatwick airport?

I will be in London for one night next sunday.
Since it's cold in there, i am not gonna travel, instead i decided to play poker during the night.

I am flying from Gatwick airport in the morning, so i need that poker room to be near Gatwick.

Thanks.

English casinos require a membership that takes 24 hours to process, so you won't be able to play if you're staying overnight.

You can be in Victoria in 30 minutes with the gatwick express, then you are 15 minutes away from all the majors pokerroom in London.

The last time I was in the UK you had to be a member of a club to play. Has something changed in the past 10ish years?

Most memberships can be obtained quickly. The Vic has a large room and you can be playing in minutes.

By the way, England owes Israel big time, so i suppose there will be no problems with the membership:)

Victoria Station, it's in London.

The rail from Gatwick will take you there, and from that poitn you can get on the Tube to a number of rooms like the Vic.

Does the rail work at night?

Victoria station, its in central london.

I would recommend the Vic, its by Paddington, on edgware road.

You can play without any problem in the Vic / the Empire and the gutshot.

Not sure if it works at night, but I took it at 6 am and 11pm.

google gatwick airport.

What stakes do you play? If you're comfortable up to Pot Limit £5/£10 then the Sunday night game at the Palm Beach used to be exceptionally good. Think a three way pot worth 400xBB where K high wins at showdown.

Seb,

Do you or anyone else know what the membership rules are like at Gutshot right now?

When I played there last year, it was just sit down and start playing.

Then the court case finally started getting resolved.

Back in September of this year it was announced on their forum that you needed to become a member, there would be a 48 hour waiting period, and you had to be nominated by two existing members.

So what's the deal now?

Re: Do you know a good poker room in London, near Gatwick airport?

I went there 2 weeks ago, I had to sign a paper, it didnt make me a member but gave me some kind of "daily membership" allowing me to play for the day.

It cost 3 pounds to play there, I think its for them to pay the fine they got from the governement.

Played 2 hours on a .5/1 self dealt table, no time charge. There are dealers for 1/2 and up but there is a rake.

when I was over in the spring there was a new club that had opened close to Gatwick, maybe it was called The Western? It was recommended by a few players I know but i didn't make it there. I personally like Gutshot, haven't been sicne their legal troubles. I know that there is new club called Loose Cannon as well, a quick google search will give you al the info you need.

The western is the furthest from gatwick and by far, its by heatrow tho.

I went there (totally out of the way) and I needed 2 member to introduce me and to wait 48h .

This is not true anymore, you can join and play on the day.

Your best bet is the Vic, it's the only actual casino in London that spreads poker, the rest are all card clubs/private members clubs. I'm not a Vic regular but it will almost certainly have at least a £3/3 & a £5/5 PLH game running, plus numerous smaller stakes tables.

Yes, sounds like the Vic is your best bet both in terms of location and size of games.
Gutshot might be too small for you.

Yes, everything is far away from Gatwick really, it's like 50 miles south of town, so any solution is going to be problematic in that respect.
However if you feel brave, you can travel into town by train, go play from, say, 8pm to 3am, then book a car to take you back to the airport after you finish. For airport transfers I use a limo service that charges about £50.
If you'd rather have an earlier session then the Vic might be the only option, last time I went to the Palm Beach (august) they were only starting games in the evening. You may want to give them a call and check to avoid disappointment.

Most of the people over 30 years old at the Gutshot are cabbies, so you'd have no trouble getting a taxi back from there!

This is no longer true. You can gain instant entrance to all casinos.

Are you sure about the instant entry, guys?
Since when did this rule change?

Thanks again for all the replies!

Note the statement in bold and the paragraph under it. FWIW I didn't realise the rule had changed as long ago as that, I thought it had changed more recently!

Edit: PS don't forget to take your passport.

Re: Do you know a good poker room in London, near Gatwick airport?

Just to be clear, the instant entry rules are for proper casinos, and it's definitely true that for those you can now walk right in and play (with ID).

However, a lot of the places mentioned in this thread (basically everywhere apart from the Vic) are not casinos but card clubs, which are operating in grey areas of the law at the moment (apart from one in nottingham that is properly licensed).

As part of their attempts to stay in the grey areas they seem to have recently started implementing tougher rules on how you join. A few friends of mine went to the gutshot last week and they were both told they needed two exisiting members to propose them before they could play. I myself went to a club a few weeks ago and could only join by getting proposed by a member and could only play that day when an existing member signed me in. If I were you I'd either go to the Vic or contact individual rooms directly to find out what the joining procedure is so you don't end up going somewhere you can't play.

Another option for you would be The Full House in Reigate (south of london), which is not far from Gatwick and which you could prob get a taxi to. It's a decent club, but I haven't been there in over a year so I don't know the current joining procedures or what games you could expect on a particular night. Note although I said the card clubs are operating in grey areas, there's no risk to individual players playing there just those running them.

This is probably your best bet. 20 mins by taxi. I think there is a direct train too.
