Goals - Places to see before you die
 

There are plenty of places to see in the world, and hopefully we'll all have plenty of time to see them all.

So Loungers, what are the "must see" places on your list?


I'll get us started, and add some more as the thread develops. Please post pictures.


Stonehenge, England:

A place shrouded in mystery, even today we still do not know definitively why this structure was constructed.

Stonehenge is also the inspiration for one of the funniest scenes in movie history, AND the perfect insult for someone with jacked up teeth:

"What is up with your teeth?!? Your mouth looks like Stonehenge."

I'd love to go to Maccu Piccu or however you spell it.

Also always wanted to go to China, all over it really. But especially to some of those Taoist monasteries high in the mountains, where everything is covered in mist.

I'd love to go to see any number of castles in Europe. There's hardly a cobblestoned bit of history I don't want to see, really.

I think that I'd like to go see almost any place that isn't too full of murderers and religious nuts. I've had my fair share of the tropics, though, so going to yet another Pacific Island is low on my lists. I spent 20 years on them already.

I'd really love to go to Tibet, too.

I think my desire to see all of these places would be cut down considerably if I had to seriously rough it, though. Which to me includes having to eat eyeballs and all that other native junk, and drink wine made out of spit, etc. I can eat a lot of stuff, but some cultures just have f*cked up food and drink.

I've been wanting to see the Galapagos! I fear I am running out of time as I just read that the government of Ecuador wants to put severe restrictions on tourism to the islands. I can't say I blame them.

I think the abundance and variety of wildlife would be fantastic.

Except for Mecca and the bit about eating eyeballs - I've been to the places mentioned so far.

I've been to The US (NYC) once for a few days, but I'd really like to take a road trip across USA in a camper van and stay in some seedy motels and the like. I'd like to see (and chat to) some of those really small town folk to see if everything on the TV really is true.

have you actually been to the Galapagos?! Did you love it? Was it just like the pictures and is it overrun with tourists?
