Thomas Amarillo SLim Preston in his book "Amarillo Slim in a World Full of Fat People," states that he has lost some insane eight figure amount(I don't remember the exact amount) and he won' say how much he's won because he's afraid of the IRS.

depends on what you mean if you say pro's. If you mean highstakes cashgames pro's, they for sure have at least 10 mil on their bank account. And that's probably not even meant to be their bankroll for poker.

Really, it's not like they had other paths that could have been more lucrative. Besides, after making a few million PLAYING poker, a pro probably starts dividing his time with business/investment related activities, so he may achieve a net worth over 50 mil but not all from playing poker.

Here are a few things to consider:

1. Pros on occasion bring as much as $1 million to the table in the biggest cash games.

2. Many people make a very good living online, but you don't hear about them becasue they don't play on one of the televised circuits.

3. Scott Fischman, a pro and winner of WSOP bracelets, said that he makes most of his living 12-tabling online.

3. Phil Hellmuth spent a year concentrating on poker-related buisness ventures (including a video series) so that "my family will be set for life". Once that was done, he felt free to fully concentrate on playing poker.

Make of the above what you will.

Another thing to consider is expenses. Obviously, it is cheaper (but not nearly as much fun) to sit at home playing online than it is to be flying all over the world playing on the World Poker Tour, then staying in a hotel (or renting a place for a month) to play in the World Series of Poker.

Making a good income is seldom without expense, be it poker books, a college education, or flying to the Carribean for a tournament.
