Monte Carlo in Vegas

Haven't heard much about the Monte Carlo in Vegas...how's the poker action? how's the casino atmosphere?

I haven't been there since July of last year, so I can't really comment on how the games are. I remember the room being small (fewer than 10 tables) and fairly tight. It's smoke-free, however, and you can get beers from the (pretty good) on-site brewpub.

I don't recall there being big games there, but I'm a $3-6/$4-8 guy, so I wasn't really looking for higher limits and don't know what they had.

The room had some TVs -- nothing huge -- and it's right next to the sports book, so you can make some bets over there and watch the games as you play.

Don't remember much about the casino itself, but as mentioned before, I recommend the brewpub. I liked the hotel overall, and if the games aren't good enough (or high enough) for you there, you can always take the free tram to the Bellagio, which, I think, runs 24 hours.

Is that all we get?

I'll be there this weekend too... last time was my wedding, this time it's a friend's wedding (bigstack if you say Rhonda and Marcus I'll [censored] my pants).

But seriously, they don't run regular 1/2NL? Even on weekends?

Should I just walk to Luxor?

No, do not walk to Luxor. Excalibur is better then Luxor, and that's mot saying much.

Monte Carlo gets 1/2 NL going during all peak hours. This includes all weekends and late afternoons/early evenings during the week. On weekends, it often gets going on 2-3 tables.

Small comfortable room, friendly, but not a destination if a poker 'action' and atmosphere is of interest. Can't comment on the hotel rooms or other table games.

the actual poker room itself, while small and catering to LL, is my favorite atmosphere in Vegas -

it reminds me of a turn of the century Poker parlor or something you'd see in a private game in Beverly Hills -

nice place - but I think it's a few tight locals and a few tight tourists - although the 4/8 game sometimes has 1/2 blinds, which is good for action -

I usually fly in pretty late friday night after work from the east coast. We've made this our first poker room stop of the trip the last couple of times out. Mainly because I don't want to play too seriously that night because I'm so damn tired and want to drink some beer. Since the beer is as good or better than any other room I've been to (thanks to the micro-brewery), we play $2/4 and drink beer and try to upset the nits. It's about as much fun as you can have doing that said activity and we always seem to walk away winners, even with the drinking

The missus and I stay at the MC when we visit Vegas, and I like the poker room as well for all the reasons stated. Great place to just kick back, relax, and have fun playing low-stakes poker. They always have limit going, and almost always have 1-2 NL ($200 max) going. Very friendly and relaxed room, just off the sports book, and you aren't bombarded with the sounds of slots like you are at, say, Bally's.

If you want higher-limit action or more game offerings, your larger casinos on the strip are your better bets. But for fun, relaxed action in a quiet are, I recommend their room.
