Re: Question for B&M pros

From a 10/20 LHE standpoint, I have had swings of approximately 85 BB in the negative direction within one session. This has happened about 3 times to me. My sessions tend to last up to 14-16 hours. I have never lost that much at one sitting but I imagine I could. So I take about 100 BB's with me for that game. I buy in for 25 BB's. I would never play with less than 10 BB's in front of me.

However, at higher limits I imagine the volatility goes up. I would want to make sure I was a winning player at those limits before I would risk 90 BB's or more in one session. though...

Really Rick, I've lost twice that in that game in a single session.

As for buy-ins, it is like other gambling, you should bring what you are willing to lose. Once you reach the point where it starts to bother you, it is time for a break.

To all the people who say you should just keep your BR at the casino, Wouldn't you want to keep as much of it as you can in a high intrest savings account? Just seems like the rest of your BR that you might not be using at the moment could be making you a little extra money.

I definitely would never keep my roll at the casinos for one main reason besides it doesn't yield any interest. I have taken a shot in the 5-10 and 10-25 NL games there approximately 10 times and have yet to lose in those games. I can definitely beat thos games I just don't have the roll for it. I would be too tempted to take a shot if I had 30 Gs sitting 5 minutes away from that game.

i think it really depends. i played live for like 6 months and at first i didn't keep a lock box, but there were a few guys who would come in and just donate chips, and i had to leave the game a couple times and I absolutely hated myself for it. After that, as a general rule I tried to leave a little more in my lock box just in case.

I never got to the point where I could play my A game all the time. But I did get really good at knowing when I was off my game and tried to adjust accordingly. I did have a stop loss as well, though it was higher than 3, but i did allow myself exceptions if a few conditions had been met.

Here we can put up front money and draw markers against it. There are no lock boxes

Just bring a buy-in and a credit card so you can get a cash advance if you lose it.

decide how much you 'need' or are willing to lose, or whatever and double it...

Good read I think most will learn a little something from it.

Yes you can put money on deposit and get a marker, however you have to go to the cage to get the marker and as far as I know you can't do it from the poker room.
