Preflop Question- Live vs. Online

I've been playing alot of live lately, and not alot of online ring games, so some of my posts might look kinda donkish for the online hands you guys are posting.-My question is, why can you raise to like 7-9 times the big blind with aces/kings/aks in a live game, and almost ALWAYS hope to get atleast one call, but in an online game you have to raise smaller (5x) so you don't scare ppl out? Just because ppl online play better?
