Smart move I think. If they kick it's a chip shot, if they go for it they will probably get it on 4th and 2. Washington hasn't thrown well so sending them back was good.

Yep, got a blocked FG, plus I imagine the field is a little slippery and tougher to kick longer field goals.

They weren't 8-8, but the Steelers in 2005 were a 5 or 6 seed. They won it all. Make a 6 team playoff this year with the 1 and 2 teams getting a bye, and I bet the 6 seed USC wins it all. Doesn't that show why there should be a playoff, to crown the TRUE national champion, or at least one thats really proved itself against the best teams?

At least in the NFL if a good team loses a bunch of key players to injury in the middle of the season, they have a chance to prove themselves when they get healthy if the make the playoffs, unlike college football where you lose your best player for ONE GAME, which causes you to lose a tough game, and YOUR DONE. I know its not like that this season, but generally it is. I really don't think a OSU-Georgia game (making this assumption for my example) accurately determines who the best team in the country is.

Pretty much. Even defining best team is pretty hard. The team that would have the highest winning % if they played every other team a statistically significant number of times? Doesn't say a whole lot about matchups. You can have teams that will beat "better teams" consistently because of the dynamics between them.

There's also best team when. A healthy team peaking late might be one of the best 1-3 at the end of the year, but have spent most of the season some where between 5 and 15. But then again, teams should get better over the course of the year. "Best team" issomething to argue over in addition to and possibly in spite of whatever happens on the field.

This Washington play calling is unreal.

They have still not been stopped running that outside spread option play. They have not done well at all with the up the middle handoff or passing and yet all second half they haven't done much but hand it off up the gut and pass.
