is 200 enough for 10nl

ive grinded my roll from 50$ up to 200 in about 4 days of playing 5nl moved up to 10nl and lost like 30 bucks from a mixrure of dozens of failed cbets and a couple coolers. I was just wondering if a 200 roll is enough for this game because i seem to lose 5 or 10 dollars like its nothing and i dont consider myself a bad player really.

$200 is easily enough for $10. However, I dunno if you're a decent player or not but if you just started 4 days ago and made 30BI I'm gonna say you got very lucky in some spots and I would suggest you stay at 5NL for another week (or 20K hands, whatever is quicker).

Re: is 200 enough for 10nl

THeoretically you want 20x the buy in so 200 is enough. This assumes you're a winning player with a normal Standard Deviation (if there such a thing). And the 20x would be the minimum.

From your post I would say you might be experiencing a more adverse reaction to the actual dollar amounts and this might cause your play to suffer. Perhaps moving back and forth until you're more comfortable with the actual dollar amounts or dropping back down until you have a larger role, giving yourself more confidence to withstand some of the drops, might be a good idea.

I used 25 buyins when I started out (and have used it ever since, even though I tend to take shots with a little bit less nowadays), so if you feel uncomfortable, just do that.

Are you playing on stars? If so, when you say NL10 do you mean the .02/.05 game or the .05/0.10 game, since the .02/0.5 game plays 200 bb deep.

If you are a losing player, you will burn through any amount. Set a budget and have fun.

If you are a solid winner, then 20 buy-ins at NL $10 is overly conservative. It's not unreasonable to play with 10 buy-ins.

People keep repeating "20 buy-ins" out of context, both in soft games (even NL $25) where it is too conservative, and in tough games where it is not enough even for an expert. If you hear an expert say, "I think I need 40 buy-ins to play NL $1000," that doesn't mean the expert would need 40 buy-ins to play NL $10, and it doesn't mean you do, either.

It's normal to be up or down 1 (100 BB) buy-in about every 100 hands. In the long run, if you are playing well, then you should be up more frequently than you are down.

on the cbet part, get pahud and have the fold to cbet% up, before I had it i was just spewing money trying to cbet ppl that wouldnt ever fold anyway.

and 20buyins should be enough for nl10.

20 buyings is decent for NL10 if you play well. My worst swing so far has been 6 buyins in 28k hands at this level.

I second this. Knowing the percentage of time someone calls a C-Bet is HUGE. Against the 100% callers, you have a hand, you bet knowing you are getting called. You don't have a hand, you save a bet.

Re: is 200 enough for 10nl

My rule is that I want to have 20x the buy-in per table at a certain buy-in level.

If I have $200, I play one table of 10NL. I can also play two tables of 5NL or five tables of 2NL.

Crysan 11-12-2007 08:46 AM

Re: is 200 enough for 10nl

But the number of tables you're playing doesn't affect the variation now does it, so what's the logic behind your rule?

How did you grind $150 in 4 days at 5NL?

coles notes for ya.

Re: is 200 enough for 10nl

If you are winning then its enough, though without loggin some time at NL5 cant just say you will tear up NL10+ or you are just running hot against donks. Hardest part for me transitioning was to the smaller stacks. With more people having 100-200BB stacks it made the draws better as you would get paid off more then with shallow stacks.

I'd say take a few buyin shots at 10, if ya lose them then go back to nl5 for awhile till ya got a bit more then you have beofore your first shot then try again. Shots are fine but you need to get your roll up enough that you arent thinking of you bets in $$s but in BBs.
