There is an IP conflict with another system.

I keep getting that message today. What does it mean and how do I fix it?

I have changed nothing on my network and it is the first time I have seen it. I have 1 wireless and 2 wire connected computers hooked out to the same router. The wireless in encrypted.

Re: There is an IP conflict with another system.

You manually (or somehow automatically) assigned 2 computers the same ip address and that causes your router conflicts...
open up "network connections" on the control panel, right click on "wireless network connection" click properties, when that comes up, scroll down and click on TCP/IP and click properties and change the ip address to a slightly higher number (ie. 192.168.0.101->192.168.0.106).
if you see that "automatically assigned ip address" checked in that properties window then open up your start menu, hit "run" and type "cmd" than a black window will come up and type "ipconfig /renew" (on vista just search for "cmd" from the start menu) and you should be good to go.

Is your wireless secure? How is it secured? I wonder if somebody's specifying an IP to get access.

do you use any virtual machine software on your network?

It is secured via WEP. I just set up a password when I bought the router. I don't even remember what it is.

I live in the penthouse of a very secure building. Every inch of public space is covered by cameras and I'm way too high from the ground for anyone to get a signal at street level. If anyone was trying to get access it would have to be one of my neighbours.

No VM software on this machine.

Nope. I'm using COMODO firewall but that is about it.

It seems to have stopped. This morning it was non-stop. Then I went out and used my laptop with a cellular connection which worked fine. Now I'm home and back on the wireless connection and it hasn't happened yet.

I've found that comodo does occasionally need a restart if you can't connect to the internet at all but your connections still work, this is usually the case for me.
