Normal hand

Full 40. Villain talks a lot so a lot of people think he's a loose fish but he's actually fairly tight/predictable. I think he thinks I'm too aggressive/loose.

Fold to villain in MP who opens, I 3bets AA in CO, fold to him he calls.

Flop: Q34r
he c/c

Turn: J offsuit
he c/c

River: 9
he donks

basic raise or call. I'm guessing he would expect me to call here with AK although the line I would have taken with AK here would have been to check the turn and fold if he bet the river. If he has a worse made hand he is not folding to a raise. I can fold here to a 3bet without any thought at all.

Given that you can fold to a 3-bet, I think it's an easy raise. He probably told himself he's going to bet/fold with KQ or whatever, but after you raise he'll talk himself into calling.

It seems to really come down to this. If he's the type that just can't throw away any made hand for one more on the river, than it seems like an easy raise/fold.

Just because you can fold if he 3-bets doesn't make raising correct.

What would make him think that? Oh, hahahahahahaha.......hahahaha......hahaha....ha... ..ha......sorry, I just couldn't resist.

Anyway, I'd raise, fold to 3. What would a 'fairly tight/predictable' player have here? You would've been c/r'd by a set or 2 pair (although I wouldn't expect to see that hand here) on the turn. Looks like A-Q, K-Q or a desperation bet to me.

Raise:

You say you can fold to a three-bet. Villain's range includes a lot of hands you beat, and given your assessment of your image in his mind, he's likely to call a raise with many of them. Given his thoughts about you, he's also perhaps more likely than in other cases to try to check-raise many of those hands that do beat you (particularly Q9, KT, and to some degre J9), instead of donking. QJ may have made noise on the turn.

This seems like a great situation to leverage your knowledge of your opponents and of your own image to squeeze out extra value. So GAS.

What could villain possibly have here that beats you? Did the 9 help him? If not, is he really not check-raising the turn?

Re: Normal hand

i would just call, i almost always raise in the moment, but i almost am always 3-bet rather than just called... i think villain is either out of line with a bluff, or has you beat... i think if he has 1 pair he is c/c to induce maniac bluff - ppl tend to view me as a bit overly agg as well, and it seems that anytime i get that line its for a bet/3bet, even though it doesnt make any sense to me

Raise, he'll talk himself into calling with AQ, KQ. Fold to a 3 bet.
