Given the board texture on the flop (eg, your draws are both very well-concealed) I think a checkk-call line is viable here.

if he is superpassive bet 4 so you'll get your odds for a flush if he calls. If he 3bets fold, if he minraises call.

I would raise that $4.00 bet with a box of hair. Betting X dollars in order to get proper odds OOP just seems so... skewed.

A big part of this is your read, IMO. I see it this way...

You have:

Hearts = 9 outs
Tens = 3 outs (discounting the T[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img])

Giving you 12 outs, which is a 2.8 to 1 chance of hitting with one card to come. The pot stands currently at about $28, so about $5 will give you the right price if you choose to bet first. As Grunch and others have already said, this probably isnt the best idea because its an easy raise.

But do you think your Aces and Kings are live, and he has no heart? A difficult read, obviously. If so, you get an extra 6 outs, taking you to 18... a 1.6 to one shot. In that case, you could bet the pot getting 2:1 on a call and reducing your chance of being raised.

So if you read him as single Jack, 7, 6, or straight draw, betting the pot is okay. If you're against a set, your odds really fall.

To everyone - what happens if we decide we are up against a set, check the turn, and villain bets the pot giving us 2:1 on a 2.8:1 shot? Does this scenario change our turn actions?

(ps. please feel free to correct my math, I'm an arts major...)

Against a calling station isn't it better to try to hit your draws as cheap as possible? The villain in this hand has an AF of .33, so him raising the small lead of 5 or so on the turn would be rare unless he has a set.
