I\'m no Sheriff...

Time and time again I see HH's containing some of the most insane, mind numbing three or even four street call downs with less than mariginal holdings.

Today's games are so aggro, everyone donks and pro's alike are capable of infinite barrels in any pot regardless of the action or context of the board. I find a lot of my friends and poker peers check call down extremely lightly often, whereas I find this to be an unprofitable play. Between the times I c/f to further heat on future streets and the times I'm wrong and my opponenet actually has it, it just doesn't seem like a +EV play.

So I want to ask you guys, how much of the time are you c/cing oop with marginal hands in the hope that your opponent is STONE bluffing because that's all you can really beat? How does being a sheriff affect your game and if you're like me and rarely are the sheriff what is your reasoning?

Thanks, interested to hear your replies.

Seeing someone using the term "being the sheriff" is sooo painful.

The reason the responses haven't been great is simply because every different hand is situational and depends on players dynamics at the time. It is profitable to call some people down with one pair OOP, it is not profitable to call others. It is like asking how do I beat poker.

mmm yes. it is subjective and it is situational but that's not to say that there can't be meaningful discusson on the topic.

meh. maybe it is too opponent/read specific. i just have such a hard time justifying making those types of plays when opponents are capable of three barreling constantly and VBing razor thin.

your initial post is so general and vague that you may as well be asking "how do i make decisions in poker?" if you want constructive answers post some hands. if you can't bring yourself to be that specific post some hypothetical spots and ask what a minimum hand to call down with would be.
