Bankroll

Hi
I've used the 300xBB rule when playing fullgame poker. And never gone broke, now I have been playing sh games and bigger then my bankroll suggest. I'm now tired of going broke time to time, and is going to start use the bankroll "rule" again. If you play short handed games can you then have the same 300xBB rule or should I go for more?

Personally, I keep a minimum of 500BB as a cushion, and I'll probably increase that as I move up in levels.

400BB downswings tend to change your outlook on bankroll requirements. (fortunately, it came after a 300BB heater, so it didn't hurt my overall BR too much)

Just get a little more. Swings are brutal.

Its just more comforting to play with more. After 5000 hands at .5/1 Ive been up for 200 and now down to 60 BB (well, ok, I started with just about nothing).

So if you catch a ride to hell in the very beginning, its really awkward to play when you sometimes cant even bring the full buyin to every table. Affects your play (imho).

Ive seen quite a lot of posts advising 20 buy ins as the minimum needed befoe moving up. This is quite a lot more than 300bbs.
I realise that in the end it comes down to opinion but how can there be two such different opinions?

eg At .25/.5 NL the max buy in is $50.
This would be either $150 or $1000 depending on which advice you followed.

This is a massive difference.

20 buy-ins = recommended minimum for NL
300 BB = recommended minimum for limit

Note those are full-ring recommendations.. I've seen 500BB recommended for 6-max, though. I've got 300BB for 1/2 but I dropped about 100+ in a matter of days (luckily got some back in .5/1 and bonus) which makes me pretty nervous for staying at that limit longer.

Of course if you're able to replenish the bankroll, smaller is fine. Mine is un-replenishable. Busto would suck.

I play fulltime and therefore keep ~1500bbs, moreso as a psychological cushion than a necessity. I personally don't really believe in good players (who practice game selection/don't tilt etc.) having +500bb downswings but I could be wrong. For recreational play, I'd say 500bb minimum (to keep your head level when you hit a 300 or somethin') and for fulltime play I'd recommend 1000bb or more.
