CDs?

Hi,
I am looking to invest a small amount of money in a long term CD. I was just wondering if anyone could recommend a good one with a fairly high yield. I don't really know anything about these but I am looking to put something like $500-$1000 in for up to 30 years... can I add to a CD after the initial deposit?

Thanks!!

Re: CDs?

A 30 year treasure bond is yielding 4.86 right now. By contrast ING (I only checked their site since they usually have one of the higher interest rates for checking so I am guessing they pay CDs well also) has a 1 year CD at 4.90 as well as a 5 year at 4.75.

I am pretty sure you can not add to a CD after you get one. However you can always get another CD. Also I am pretty sure CDs do not go 30 years out. ING stops at 5 years. I think most other places do as well.

Pentagon Federal Credit Union has 6% for 3, 4, 5, 6, or 7 years. If you are not employed by the government or military, you can become a member of National Military Family Association for $20 (this will get you in the door of the Credit Union for life)

Re: CDs?

the better question here should be why are you looking to invest in a cd for that long of a term? If you are looking for anything long term throw the money in some sort of an etf or something along those lines.

Re: CDs?

For every $1,000 you give me, I will give you $5743.50 in 30 years. That is 6% a year.
