An ethical question
 

Now I know that stating what cards you folded during a hand is taboo as it can kill the hand for those left but what about a hand you are in?
Take this scenario, freeroll, ie loose players with everything from beginners to fairly good players. Say 3 limp in and then a 3bb raise which is called by next two. You're next with AA.
You can't just call it and there's a big risk that a 6bb raise (or even more) will get called by half the table. Is it allowed to type in 'AA' and go all-in? This I have tried on a number of occasions with the desired result that most will fold and one or two will call. If everyone folds that is fine too. But is it unethical?

I don't understand, you communicate with the people at your table by typing?

Either live or online, that's unethical. You should not discuss your hand unless you are headsup.

If I would read AA in the chatbox I would actually be pretty sure you don't have Aces!

There are a lot of places where it's even a rule that you are not allowed to tell the hand you are holding.
You may lie about it, but you can't tell you actual hand!

Everytime someone says they have AA, I call. It is unethical to tell what you really have and most people know and respect this, so usually it is safe to bet that they don't really have the bullets.

A big part of poker is to guess what your opponent is holding. If he is saying out loud what he has it kills the game!

On the slim chance we're not being trolled:

You can always talk about your hand when you are heads-up.
You can never talk about your hand when you are not.
If you don't want callers, raise more.
If you are playing in a home game (this is the "Home Poker" forum), you don't type.
Your question is not about ethics - it is about the rules of poker, and it's not very debatable.

Maybe I got the wrong forum. It is of course online poker.
Note that this applies strictly to a hand you are in. The rules are quite clear on discussing hands you are not in and folded cards etc, a definate no no.

Is it, however, ok to lie and say you have aces when you don't and not ok to say you have them when you do? Seems to be about 50:50 whether you will be believed or not so is it against the rules?
I would really like an answer from someone who knows for sure and I sure as h... don't want to get banned for telling the truth.

In live poker I have seen banter such as 'can you beat such and such' which can lead to 'can you beat such and such then' - a better hand in other words. A well known player beginning with Daniel in fact. While not actually saying what they have they sure get pretty close and still could also be bluffing. So could I. As to getting called from a non-believer, that is precisely what I want but not half the table.
As I said before, I'm happy if everyone folds.

So what is the difference? Lying to get someone to fold and telling the truth to get someone to fold? I guess one could also say lying to get someone to call or telling the truth to get someone to call. Is the former ethical and the latter not?
