A noob question
 

This is really bad for asking this but when people say they acted behind and in front of you which is what.

I.E those that have acted before you already=....

and those who act after you=...

Thanks, i just get confused between the two

people who act behind you haven't acted yet--they act after you do.

Appreciate the replies guys, but arent these conflicting each other??

Ill use an example and someone could answer maybe?

Im late position and cutoff has yet to act. Its my turn and i bet. Am i betting in front or behind him.

You are betting in front.

Something you hear a lot is "limpers in front of you", meaning limpers that have acted before you.

Also, there is the phrase "check behind", meaning you have checked after someone else has checked.

Just think of a normal line-up at a counter or something. People in front go first.

in front of you = before you
behind you = after you

behind means they act after you.

No one is behind the button. No one is in front of first to act.
"I got bottom two pair with a bet and raise in front of me"
"A loose player bets, I have top pair weak kicker, but two guys to act behind me"

On a side note, in a Vegas casino, if a player buys chips and has not recieved them(if a person is going to the cage to bring him chips), then he is that much behind (e.g. seat 3 is 500 behind).

To me, this is wrong. However, Screbner, the reason you see conflicting answers is that people often use "in front" and "behind" in this manner. You have to go by context, but let's do it in the logical way Echinos suggests. We'll be in the majority.
