December Sking in United States?

Where is a good place to ski that wouldn't be super expensive. I'm thinking i want to go the week before christmas. Is this a bad idea? I was also thinking Vail, CO.

Does anyone have a better recommendation?

Note: I plan to actually snowboard. And have never done either before. But believe it will come naturally.

Lloyd: What the hell are we doing here, Harry? We gotta get out of this town!
Harry: Oh yeah, and go where? Where are we gonna go?
Lloyd: I'll tell you where. Someplace warm. A place where the beer flows like wine. Where beautiful women instinctively flock like the salmon of Capistrano. I'm talking about a little place called Aspen.

If I'm not mistaken the best terrain at Crested Butte usually either isn't open or isn't any good in December.

not many places in colorado will be great in december. i've only been to crested butte during tgiving, and they usually only have a couple runs open.

never been to aspen. there's a small chance their main mountain doesn't allow snowboarding still.

vail is good, but not very cheap. i love to ride copper. less resorty feeling. more a local mountain. and you can eat lunch there without breaking the bank.

used to love winterpark, but haven't been in like 7-8 years. also less resortey feeling.

breckenridge sucks for boarders. too many flats and cat tracks.

keystone is fun, but i always get lost there, as there are like 3 peaks, and last run (when i'm done boarding i'm done boarding) is sometimes 3-4 more runs trying to get back to the main base. dont' know if you'll have this problem in december though.
