what do you think he was betting with gutshot?

your so good here.

[/ QUOTE ]

what would he call turn with that he would turn into a bluff on the river?

its more that he is going to be value betting a worse hand here a decent amt of the time. our hand beats two pairs, so i think we have to call.

Why do we check river? Is TT/T9/T8 a huge part of his range?

it seems like a pretty thin parlay to me. i mean, he has to have one of only a few "made" hands that we beat -- 78, 89, 79, 9J -- and has decide to value-bet it; or he has some kind of float or spades or one-pair hands and has decided to bluff. I have a hard time seeing how those add up to enough situations to call, especially considering every hand that beats us will value bet pretty much every single time.

Against the villain described, I would bet $1500 on the river and fold to a raise. I think his range for betting the river is weighted somewhat heavily towards JT, T8, 99 and 77 in that order.

I think you only need to check the river if the player is tougher than the one described. He will rarely bluff shove over a 35% bet, and when he does, it should be a very easy fold. This way you also get value out of his 2 pairs more effectively than shoving or checking.
