Moderators shouldn\'t keep ignore lists

There was a thread a while ago about why mods can't be ignored. However, mods are allowed to keep an ignore list of their own. Dids, for example, maintains a 40 person ignore list. What if someone on the list needs to PM the moderator, or makes abusive comments in a thread?

Dids' ignore list - many of these people post in NVG:

Note to microbob: Sorry, I didn't know where else to put this.

If you use the notify moderator button, it's an email. If you post in a forum I read, I'll do a "quote" to see the post if it seems like it might require attention.

My list doesn't get in the way of my moderation at all.

Thanks for responding, didn't know about the email. However, as far as I know noone on your list can send you a PM. They'll also be unaware of this if they do send you a PM; it will just appear to go unanswered.

I wasn't picking on you in particular (I'm on half of 2+2's ignore lists), but in general having moderators ignore posters seems like a bad idea.

I happen to agree that mods shouldn't keep ignore lists.
However, I'm usually in the minority. I also think mods should have two accounts - a mod account and a personal account. But, whatever.

I think it might be more of an issue if it was a forum with only one moderator, but even in those cases, a used could just pm cola or mat.

Nobody would want to be a mod if they had to use two accounts to do anything.

Clark,

What's your reasoning behind this?

My point of view is that the only issue is that you can't PM me. I'd hope this is mitigated by the fact that my email address is public as is my AIM SN (dashboardirvin).

I basically read every ignored post I see in my forums.

Then why even keep an ignore list? Don't you think that people not being able to pm you could be a problem? I know your aim and email is there, but the ignore list just seems counterproductive if you're going to read them anyways.

Because he doesn't have to read their posts in OOT.

I agree they shouldn't be able to keep an ignore list.
