Aces hand, no reads. Did I play this well?

New to the table, only three hands in: No reads.

Preflop - Raise size alright?

Flop - I didn't want him to go away, but wanted to make drawing to the flush a bad move on his part.

Turn - My concern for flush increased here, but I didn't want to give him a chance to draw at the flush if he didn't have it. At this point, I didn't feel that he could have a set, so I priced the bet at 4. Was this too little/too much?

River - after him calling both of my bets, and knowing that if he held a T or a 5 in his hand, I was beat, I checked behind. Did I miss a bet here, or was this the right play?

I'll post results after comments - thanks for your help.

Re: Aces hand, no reads. Did I play this well?

Pre-flop: ok, since there's only one limper.

Flop: good. At this point, it seems he has either a low-medium pocket pair (66-99), AT-JT, or a flush draw.

Turn: good. I wouldn't yet be worried about a made flush here. Unless the villain is a calling station, 66-99 seem unlikely as those hands should probably fold here. At this point, he probably has one of the following hands:

- AT-JT for top pair (most likely, in my opinion)
- A slowplayed flush
- Slowplayed trips (least likely, in my opinion)

River: checking is fine here, as the river card is bad for you. Barring some kind of freak holding like KK-JJ, I'm not seeing a call from any hand that you're beating.

All in all, I'd say you played it well. NH!

All the streets look fine. You should absolutely check behind on the river, there's too many scare cards out there to value bet.

I'd make it at least 2 to go on the flop. But maybe not, I see how the 1.75 makes it less than $2, so that when you bet the turn $4 to control the potsize $4 seems like a big increase over your flop bet and keeps any slowplayer satisfied letting you get a cheap showdown and making them think you might bet the river more.

Standard good hand. Nothing to worry about.

Alright, thanks for the input. Being new at NL Cash games, I was not sure how I played it.

For the record, villan had JJ.

Re: Aces hand, no reads. Did I play this well?

I'm going to slightly deviate from everyone else.

I think he should make a value bet on the river.

Opponent has a pocket pair. 95% of opponents are not going to play a flush or trips that weakly, particularly at these limits. Unless you have a read that a person is so passive they'll never bet a hand as strong as trips, boat or flush, aces is winning here.

And I'll go on the record saying I'm between weak tight and TAG... and I'd bet this river the way this hand played out.

Again.. if you know someone never bets their hands or they're particularly tricky... maybe check behind. But without that read, value bet.

how often do you think a pocket pair calls on that board, say 88 or 99? i dont think they call very often.
