AK suited pre flop

Its a step tourney, top 2 advance, 3rd gets a replay and 4th goes back a step. My bets were getting repesct with others folding and thought I would simply try a call. UTG had been playing tight, first time I saw him go all in. AS the decsion comes to me I know the short stack is calling the all in and I think I'm up against maybe a pair from UTG and a ace high from SB

I fold here especially if it is a step tourney and if UTG is tigh (I assume he is seat 6). I think this is pretty standart. The min-raise looks suspicous and a guy who raises UTG and then pushes after a reraise seems pretty strong (QQ+, AK).

If UTG is really tight you could even find a fold after his UTG-Raise.

Given the structure of this tourney, your reads, and your non-desperate stack size I can find a fold here.

I push preflop the first time. t450 in the middle is quite good.

I don't think I can call off >10% of my stack with AKs and then fold.

That said, seems like a pretty easy value shove the first time.

[/ QUOTE ]Had thought the samething,thought i would try just a call. I had been raising every strong hand I had, wanted to mix up the play. Had I gone against 1 player I would of called preflop but I knew I would be up against 2 players. Not good odds when I'm on a draw. Had the UTG simply reraised an amount that would put the SB all in I would of called I think. When he instead reraised all in I put him on a strong hand. Against two other players I thought I would lose 1 or 2 outs between them.

I do seem to run into a type of play where I flat call and then have a difficult decsion after the flop. MNaybe I should change my play and stop that type of play and maybe just always value bet my strong hands and of course bet bluffs preflop knowing I have a tight imagaed.

Mixing up your play is a waste of time against players who won't notice. For those who do notice, they won't see you play the same hand twice often enough for it to matter. A lot of the time that you play AKs, you don't show it down anyway.
