Also, do you pay taxes to your home country while living there?

Oh, also,

I understand that white people seem to be all the rage there.

This is not meant to be derogatory in any way but Do you ever get the feeling that girls are [censored] you solely because they feel you might get them out of poverty?

Do you also get down on American girls that you view as gold diggers?

You cannot 'move' there really, at least not so far as the gov't is concerned. You'll be a tourist there forever.

What about through marriage? It should be easy to get married right? Then can you stay more permanently?

Also awesome thread, I think I'm coming over in a few months.

i'm done w/ this little tangent, you have to go to thailand to understand.

[/ QUOTE ]

What's there to understand? It seems like what you've said in this thread is "Holy crap! Any white guy in Thailand is THE MAN! We have so much money compared to them! They are so poor, and docile like a woman should be!" Presumably it pisses you off in America because there's all that competition that you have to stack up against; either that or being into money just to make you more comfortable instead of escaping noble poverty just doesn't seem as cool. Seems pretty straightforward.

I'm not getting down on anyone. I said that in my thread.

I was just wondering how much of what they find attractive in white people is $$$ and how much is looks, personality, diversity, whatever.

Is seems weird to me that they want to have sex with you when I would think they know full well they have almost no chance of coming back to your home country with you.

Also thanks a lot for the info everyone. I'm getting really excited about going.

Degen how often do you do ATM and tell us about the orgies.
Would a rich 18 year old white fairly handsome and intelligent kid be able to prostitute himself down there?

Until you get over this western way of thinking, you simply will not be happy in a relationship with a thai woman. You can bang them to your hearts content and all of that, but you will never truly be able to be content and understand her and her family etc.

It isn't about $$$. It is about security and providing for your family and making your parents proud and saving face and a ton of other things. Yes money is a factor, but to word it that way and put that sort of a label on it is unfair to them and ultimately, to yourself.

[/ QUOTE ]

1. I'm really just looking at the objectively. If I felt strongly western thinking was right I wouldn't be going

2. Everything else you said makes a lot of sense. Even if she is pretty sure she is not going to be your wife, it still looks good on her to be with a guy who is very successful and desireable in the eyes of her culture. Plus theres always that chance in her eyes..

Re: Ask Degen Anything About Living In Thailand

My perspective is different from Bills. I married a Thai woman while I was in grad school, and we are here living in Chiang mai. So, I'm not after the baller lifestyle.

As I mentioned in another thread, I was electrocuted, or experienced electric shock, the other day while I was in my own shower. So, while things are cheap in thailand, you always have to keep some things in mind.. They're cutting corners where ever they can, and people aren't making sh*t for money. So, while I'm here, I'm pretty cautious, and when I'm out I usually throw people an extra buck or two, and that totally makes there day.

As far as my lifestyle goes, I live in a huge beautiful house in a great neighborhood. we paid cash for the house, I won't say how much, but let's just say i'm a sh*tty poker player ( a winning one, but i still suck),and I could still afford to do that. I have a woman in my neighborhood that delivers me food each day for about $1 each time, as well as a woman who comes to my house and gives me a massage for $2.50 an hour.

Yes, the women are absolutely beautiful, and its ez for any "farang" to score one.

If anyone would like to ask me questions in this thread feel free.

I don't think everyone is understanding a fundamental point here. I've never been to Thailand, I have however been to various other 3rd world countries. These people completely idolize Americans. All they see on TV is beautiful, rich, and happy Americans. For them to meet us (Americans)is almost like meeting a celebrity. I think this is what is happening to Degan in Thailand. It's not neccessarily that he is white, I think it is more so that he is 'American'. At least thats the way it was for me in India and Malaysia.

My lease is up in a couple weeks and I'm supposed to sign papers for another place tomorrow. I'm starting to think about renting a storage unit instead...
