Road trip for 2/5 or 3/5 NL?

Hi everyone,

I've been playing 1/2 and 2/4 online NL Holdem with modest success.

My GF (who also plays) and I are planning a road trip for 2-3 weeks to play some B&M. I wish to play 2/5 and 3/5NL, and she would like to play 1/2NL. I'd be willing to sit in a soft 5/10 game with no more than $1000 in front of me.

We live in Minneapolis, and are going to be driving.

My initial thought would be Milwaukee (Potaatomi), Tunica, New Orleans, and maybe swing over to AC. Is Biloxi/Gulfport still a ghost town?

Since I'm an online player, I really have no idea where to find live NL games (illegal in MN). I'm assuming that if I can find 1/2 - 3/5NL games they will be softer than what I'm used to online, which has been my experience the few times I've played live in Wisconsin, Reno and LV.

Can you guys recommend good poker towns (and casinos!) east of the Rockies? Or should we scrap the whole idea and go to Las Vegas?

I know about allvegaspoker.com, does anyone know of a similar resource for other parts of the US?

Thanks in advance!

Jim
PS: I did try the search...

homepokergames.com has found me many decent games as well as some not-so-good ones...its basically hit-or-miss.
other than underground games, your list sounds pretty sensible
good luck

If you're going to play poker, hit Vegas. If you're going to see the country side, make sure you hit up St. Croix Casino in Turlte Lake, WI on your way to Milwaukee.

I hear that the Horseshoe in Council Bluffs, IA can have some good games especially on tournament days.

Swinging through NOLA/Biloxi/Tunica is very viable. If you're down here, gimme a shout.

Other places to stop:
Harrah's St. Louis (1/2 & 2/5 NL)
Harrah's Kansas City (1/2 & 2/5 NL)
Horseshoe Coucil Bluffs (1/2 & 2/5 NL)
Prairie Meadows, Des Moines, IA - will have 1/2 nl, might have bigger games but unsure of current schedule

Also you could stop in Chicago but I think all games are 2/5 NL and bigger which would work for you but not the GF

As far as trip plans:
Turtle Lake
Milwaukee
Chicago
Indiana (do a search in B&M for Indiana in the subject, you will find them, I think its Majestic Star or Trump Indiana, I am unaware of limits so do a search)
Harrah's St. Louis
Tunica/Biloxi
Oklahoma via Dallas as I believe there is a casino just over boarder on 35
Other Oklahoma Casinos
Harrah's North Kansas City
Binion's Horseshoe Council Bluffs
Prairie Meadows, Des Moines, IA
There is another small casino just off I35 in northern IA but I am sure if they have NL, it would only be 1/2

Anyway I would refine this list above to fit your time contraints but I think it would be fun

If you are a winning 2/4nl player online, please play higher than 2/5 or 3/5 live. I assure you that you will be way ahead of a power curve at 5/10nl live - if you can find it.

Thanks for this excellent list! This is exactly the kind of thing I was hoping for.

I appreciate all the replies to this thread. Very helpful stuff.

Is Atlantic City worth the 2 days out of our way?

I will do that! NOLA is probably about 2 weeks out... Is Harrah's the only game worth checking out there? I've heard it's a ridiculously good game, but this was pre-Katrina. Worth the 4-8 hours of extra driving?

Thanks again!

Jim
