my biggest leak - hitting topset on a connecting board

this is my biggest leak in omaha - i generally play full ring. Is there a better way of controlling pot size. I'm probably playing this like crap, thoughts welcome.

Let's say i'm in MP with K [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]K [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]8 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]7 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] and there are two limpers. I raise pot ??? [overly aggressive?] i like to play my omaha hands HU or 3handed.

Then the flop hits what looks to be a magical

K [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]Q [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]3 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]

OK - i note I make trips, and that there is no 1 to a flush.

This is where i like to pot, even if i'm betting first. Invariably when I'm faced with a reshove I have to call a big pot. Then they show me something like AJT4 and i'm sent crying home with them making the str8.

So...... thoughts?..... Should i check-call the flop? I lose most money overplaying top-set on semi-connected boards.

Thanks.

you should like getting it in with the best hand, if you get outdrawn thats bad luck nothing you can do about it.

you're about 60/40 with KK vs AJT in this situation ( a little better cause your runner runner draws)

well in my eyes you have only 2 options:
bet the flop and
check-raise the flop

when the turn is dealt you got 2 problems:
1) draws are completed - without paying for it
2) draws won't call a huge bet anymore, if they aren't completed

get the money in while you're infront

and they will have more useful information on the turn because if the board pairs they re drawing dead against a set and if their straight hits you still have equity. by pushing the flop you take away that advantage.

geting it in is your goal.. turn play is much harder.. alternativ is rais flopp and rais every turn thats not scary.. problem with this is that you give him lots of bluff situations

you make money by pushing edges, and you should bet, check-raise, or bet/re-raise.. on this flop, I'd pot every time, unless I'm damn sure villain would take a stab if I check.. now, check-calling, that would be a leak...

Raise preflop and take the shortest route to allin postflop.

There is a third option. Bet out half the pot.
A hand such as AJT will often raise here thinking you are weak. Half pot bets with top set work wonders.

i didn't say bet the pot at flop - i just said bet the flop - which can be half - full - or smth other.

i prefer half pot size bets at such boards too

Such a nice tool to work with. Great spot to induce a raise.

Edit also: "Invariably when I'm faced with a reshove I have to do a double fist pump and call a big pot."
