Goin\' to California

I'll be in LA this week, Thurs-Sun. My buddy is out of town, so I'm on my own self. Was planning on hitting HG, Commerce, and Bike, but was told Hustler would have the best 4/8 games. Thoughts?

Anyone in the rooms this week and see a middle-aged bald guy in a leather hat, say wassup.

All - the OP is used to short handed low limit online games, he hasn't played full ring in some time because he has been focusing on improving his short handed game. Please make your recommendations with this in mind, the 4/8 game should be as close as possible to the texture he is used to so he doesn't have to adjust too much. I thought Hustler would be the closest in texture, but I could be wrong.

Unless there has been a change (and there could have been, it has been 5 years since I have been to Hustler) they only use one blind in their smaller games.

I don't play that low except for occasional fun/social reasons but from what I've seen from a few tables away Hustler 4/8 and below games might be a little nittier (assuming they still have only one blind). I think they have some of their smaller games played with a "kill" which would liven them up though. In any event Hustler is worth a trip just for the decor/atmosphere.

Regarding "short handed texture" LA games below 40/80 simply won't play short mostly due to the high drop taken on any flop (and that lower limit games in B&M don't seen to play short anywhere).

If you go to the Hustler and have some extra time stop by the Normandie one mile north. Goofy/fun old time cardroom.

I was looking for games that play 3-4 handed average to the flop rather than 6-8 ways average, thats closer to shorthanded texture in my eyes.

Then The Bike or Hustler might be the best bet.

thanks Rick, that was my thought as well. I was thinking Bike with Hustler as an additional option with a must-see Commerce experience just to say "been there, done that".

Hustler & Bike both "work."

Bike has the tightest 4/8 around for your "special needs." But live, with the CA rake, I'd adjust my game. I don't know much about the Hustler. Commerce = gambool central for max. aggression. HG is MUCH more LAP. I would play there to practice shark among the fish tactics. For me, LAP tables tend to be the most consistently profitable. I think it is also the closest to where you are hangin.
