Great Security At The Taj (NOT!)

I was playing $1/$2 NL at the Taj on Monday night and the following occurred at about 2:00 AM.

There were two players at the table (seats 8 and 9) who have stacks that appeared to be around $1000. Seat 9 is outside smoking a cigarette. Seat 8 gets up and goes to talk to a friend a couple of tables over. A guy who had been playing at our table a couple of hours earlier (but had busted out) comes walking back to our table, walks over to directly behind the 8 seat, reaches down and picks up a stack of seat 8's chips (it appeared to be a hundred dollar stack). This occurs while the dealer is cleaning the muck and pushing a pot to a player.

Exactly when the guy puts the chips into his pocket, seat 8 returns from talking to his friend and sees the criminal putting his chips in his pocket. Seat 8 tells the criminal that he saw what he did and that he wants the chips back. Criminal says, I didn't do nothing. Seat 8 says, I just saw you, and calls for the floor and security. The criminal proceeds to hand Seat 8 about 3 chips (15.00) and walk away. Seat 8 is yelling for the floor and security as is a couple of other people. The criminal starts walking away and throwing 5 dollar chips at Seat 8. Finally near the sign in desk, the criminal is stopped by a floor person. The criminal throws his hands up in the air and says, you got nothing on me, search me, search me, go ahead. Everyone around us tells the floor what happened and the floor says well if he gave the chips back there is nothing we can do. People start yelling at the floor and he says, look, what do you want, he gave the chips back and he will be escorted out.

About an hour later, someone comes to our table and tells us that the criminal is still standing directly outside the poker room, still inside the casino, and trying to talk to people as they are walking out of the poker room.

Moral of the story: Commit a crime at the Taj, say you are sorry and all will be forgiven.

Very nice security at the Taj.

YOU'RE FIRED!

Actually last time I was at the Taj, I caught two guys cheating. I was playing 5/10 or 10/20 by the glass alongside of the poker room. I was seated with my back to the glass, I think it was the 10 seat. Anyway, I notice the guy in the 6 seat winking over my head to a guy standing behind the glass in the corridor between the lobby and the restrooms trying to peek at my hole cards. I keep playing very cautiously doing my best to hide my hole cards. I keep noticing the guy behind the glass still standing there after 5, 10, 15, minutes. Finally, I go tell the floor what is happening, and they actually started checking out the situation. Finally, the co-conspiriter behind the glass finally moves on due to the floor surveillance. The floor did thank me for the info though. I didn't even get a comped cheesesteak out of it.

I had an opposite experience at the Borgata- While I was playing a big NL game, my girlfriend was playing 2/4 limit for fun. She was up over a rack of white chips and had them in a rack on the table. Someone complained that she didn't have a working stack and the floor came over and explained that the rack couldn't be on the table, or at least that's how she interpreted it. She put the full rack on the floor under her seat- obviously not a good idea.

Well, about 30 minutes later, a guy two seats down pulls a rack from under the table with two row missing. My girlfriend explains that it's hers but it was a full rack when she put it on the floor. The dealer tells her if she put it on the floor it's her fault and there's nothing they can do, which is absurd. The floor should have been called over immediately. So I come by about 5 minutes after this all happened and my girlfriend explains what happened and I call the floor over and explain the situation. At this time, the guy next to her gets up and walks away pretending he has a phone call (leaving "his" chips on the table), and two guys at the table realize he was down to the felt a while ago and now had almost 2 stacks without ever buying chips or winning a pot. The floorperson calls security, they look at the tapes, and give her the chips back from the guy's spot (He never came back). All in all it worked out and the Borgata staff did their job (except the dealer)even though it was only a few bucks.

I have witnessed and heard about a lot of crimes at the Taj.

One elderly regular player whose name shall remain anonymous, got robbed in the mens room by the outer exit.
Victims claims to have had $3000 stolen from him.

Whenever I play at the Taj and I have cash on the table. I announce the amount Im taking off the table. Nobody usually objects because of the urban legend of a player that had $1000 in cash taken from her when she went for a break.

You mean like when you get up to use the bathroom or take a phone call, you take the chips off the table and just ask them to hold the seat and say what amount you're taking off the table? I've only really played at Harrahs and I normally just leave the chips on the table since i'm only gone like 3 min. Is this a bad idea? Everyone else seems to do it that way so I assumed it was safe.

Cash, not chips. If I leave the table and I have cash on the table like five hundred dollar bills, I take the $500 off the table and announce the amount.

Well I'll add my own story about the Taj. I once witnessed a late night pizza delivery (maybe calzones, whatever). After paying the guy sets the box down by the podium and turns around to yell to his friend. Before he can turn back around there is a loud crash as a thief runs through the doors with his pizza.

If the action wasn't so sic at the Taj I'd never go there. Although I am running just horribly against the borgata dealers who play there; Mike is so dead for capping AJo against me

I didnt think you were allowed to do this? FWIW I usually lay whatever bills I have flat on the table and stack my chips on top if I have to leave the table.

I always use the bathroom by Club Ego because of these stories. Plus it's all renovated and nice.
