river play: side pot existing

seat 7 is very short. he is so bad i don't even care that he's in the pot.

seat 8 has a clue and is passive and won't value bet thin, ever. he also is free equity and won't fold when behind when it's only one bet to him.

in the live games i play, i occassionaly play PLS8 and in this case, i would definitely fire a pot-sized bet on the river. but i'm playin limit tonight. . . who likes a value/bluff on the river for the side pot?

i thought fourth, fifth, and the river had some stuff to talk about.

on fourth, who likes a raise to iso and hopefully get a 3 bet by the shorty? I decided against it to keep seat 8 in and also because I was probably behind seat 7.

fifth: if i caught bad i wanted to dump it, but everybody's board looks bad...high five i guess. folding didn't feel right at the time.

sixth: easy to play

seventh: what is hte proper play against a loose but bad player. I bet this river purely as a bluff, knowing if I got called I'd probably get chopped or worse, scooped. With the side pot there, is it worth it?

I also would fold fifth against regular stud8 players but we had been playing enough that i felt i'd get paid on sixth/seventh if i caught good and others caught bad, (it's too bad 2/400 players don't play like this)

I'm going to assume that you have the low side of the side-pot more or less locked up. By betting, you're basically laying $10 to $8.50 that the other guy will fold a better high. He's not folding a better low, and he's not folding a decent high hand. He might even call down with a little pair. Since he's gunning for the main pot as well, I'm guessing that he's calling with about anything. Also, by betting, you open yourself up to a check-raise. I don't like the bet.

andy agreed, especially the c/r part that i didn't consider. (i rarely get c/r'ed in this game)

results: he made a 76 low on the river and i got scooped out of both pots.

Thoughts on raising fourth anyone? If Seat 7 has just about anything you might want to try to force seat 8 out.

Raising 4th is legitimate, I really don't like raising 6th or betting river. Guy is calling with probably any pair for hi or better low, you only have an 86, which is far from good. I'd just call and then check, I think the raise/bet is way -EV.
