KK 1/2

PokerStars 1/2 Hold'em (5 handed) Hand History Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com (Format: 2+2 Forums)

Preflop: Hero is BB with K[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], K[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img].
1 fold, MP raises, 1 fold, SB calls, Hero 3-bets, MP calls, SB calls.

Flop: (9 SB) 6[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], 5[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], Q[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (3 players)
SB bets, Hero calls, MP folds.

Turn: (5.50 BB) 2[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (2 players)
SB checks, Hero bets, SB calls.

River: (7.50 BB) Q[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (2 players)
SB bets, Hero calls.

Final Pot: 9.50 BB

I called flop to raise any turn but did not get a chance to. My question is river standard? I really thought he was betting the Q on the flop. No reads as first hand at table.

Re: KK 1/2

Raise the flop. You risk losing value by just smooth-calling (sometimes he'll check turn, sometimes he'll 3bet flop) and are allowing MP to make a correct call with a 4-or 5-outer. If it's HU or you had a read that he's aggro then I like the smoothcall better, but I still wanna pump it with the 3rd player in the pot.

Turn is std. River is tricky.
I don't think he has a Q here. It's a rare breed of player that'll donk the flop with top pair and then slow down on the turn when a brick hits. He might be value betting 6x or 77-JJ, he might have picked up a backdoor flush (A[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]K[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]). I think since you don't have a read the call is fine. You need to be a 66% favorite vs his range, and I'm not sure whether you are or not.

I would hope aks caps preflop.

Against this donk bet, I think just calling is best on the river.

Just raise the flop when it's 3 ways and the pot is this big. There is no need to get tricky here. He might even donk the turn again for you, which these guys sometimes do. The river is an easy call because his turn check doesn't make sense if he has a Q.

results

donk had red 9's. Nice read guys - preflop raiser surprised me by folding to 1 bet and I can see how 3 betting flop is the better play.

Raise the flop, You don't want the other guy drawing cheaply. Then you can just bet the turn for value. If on the river he comes out betting like he did it is close but I would probably raise, Calling is fine too though.

Re: KK 1/2

As stated, raise the flop. The reason you don't call this flop 3-way is that you don't want a hand that MP might have like 9[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 8[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] getting to draw at a gutshot for cheap and lo and behold, picking up 9 more outs on the turn with a flush draw.

Also, it was obvious to me that the player here didn't have a queen (he would have bet on the turn) or hearts (he also would have bet this on the turn as a continuation bet of his "bluff" on the flop) so I would have raised the river as played.
