Fall Fashions (and good deals on fashions!)

Back here in New England, we've arrived at the nicest time of year: fall! Time for cider, football games, sweatshirts, apple picking, foliage...and time to put away those shorts.

in this spirit, I just picked up a few new blazers for the fall. this is something I started incorporating in my wardrobe just last year, with great success! While this is pretty standard in NYC, LA, or SF, in many other cities/towns wearing a blazer really helps you look nicer than the average dude. and it doesn't have to be expensive.

for instance, here are the 3 I picked up today (just the blazers)

http://img512.imageshack.us/img512/9...099066api6.jpg http://img505.imageshack.us/img505/8...058451apc0.jpg http://img505.imageshack.us/img505/4...083204arv4.jpg

all of these were from Penguin. (I would link directly to them, but the site is acting kind of wonky). grand total for all 3? $105. pretty sweet.

anyways, thoughts on these? is there anything else people have picked up recently? Any great deals?

Re: Fall Fashions (and good deals on fashions!)

Those are all sharp. I like the one on the left the best. I'd buy them for $105. So where'd you get that deal, so I can buy them as well?

I went on this website http://www.originalpenguin.com/ but I'm not finding anything that is as good a deal as what you found.

go the sale area (or just the regular online sales area?) and click on "Jackets". you should see them. though, the website is acting really wonky, as I mentioned.

also, coupon code OPGFF will give you 30% off. (I found this on fatwallet)

Re: Fall Fashions (and good deals on fashions!)

I do not like the colour and contrast of one, it's too shiny. Penguin usually does a good job, if this is from their '07 fall collection, I'm disappointed.

Re: Fall Fashions (and good deals on fashions!)

How do you guys go about sizing when ordering from places like these? Id be to afraid it would fit horribly. Then again, at 35 bucks I guess you cant go to far wrong.

Paluka 09-13-2007 11:29 PM

Re: Fall Fashions (and good deals on fashions!)

I bought 2 of the 3 blazers. $35 is filthy. I hope medium was the correct size!

Re: Fall Fashions (and good deals on fashions!)

OP thanks for the heads up on this.

For those about to start clicking and shopping on the penguin site:
I just got off the phone with their customer service and they won't be able to process any orders online or over the phone for what sounds like 24-72 hours. They're having some undefined problems with their computer ordering system.

Aye, the site seems to be down right now. I'll be keeping a close eye on the development of this thread though :P

Yeah, this is annoying - customer service on the phone was no help, which really makes me not keen on ordering with them.

azk,

Have you seen pics online? If not, is it from a fall collection or s/s '08?

Re: Fall Fashions (and good deals on fashions!)

Since we've had a few fashion thread, I'd love to see a big list of sites where people shop for clothes online. I've never heard of most if the sites posted here and would probably do more of my shopping online if I had more options.

Re: Fall Fashions (and good deals on fashions!)

fwiw i only buy things online if i can try them on in a store first and can find it cheaper online.

AZK 09-14-2007 04:00 PM

Re: Fall Fashions (and good deals on fashions!)

i stopped shopping online because i was doing it a lot and the clothes never fit me as well as going to the store and trying them on... i used to just use saks/neimans/nordstroms and bluebfly or a random site if i saw one piece of clothing i liked. unless you know your exact size, as in you already bought and want antoher, i'd suggest trying everything on in person first, otherwise you have to go with all this back and forth shopping. you could potentially go to stores and try stuff on you like then see what it's priced at online... kinda nitty but you can save huge.

I prefer a lower button stance.

I'm surprised they didn't alter the sleeve lenth in these photos.

I picked these up for the fall. Nice, sturdy split-toe Norwegiens. Good deal too.

http://entimg.msn.com/i/gal/WeekInPh...adpitt_400.jpg

i don't however wanna drop brad pitt type cash on these. $200 at most. the first pic is of doc marten lukie rigger's or something like that.

i live in vegas so i'm sure there has to be some somewhere, anyone got any ideas?

lol, so i should just buy a pair of faded black boots and drag them behind my car? not actually a bad idea.

are there any well known ways to distress boots?

Maulik 09-17-2007 12:03 PM

Re: Fall Fashions (and good deals on fashions!)

re: boots.

Also check Barneys Coop, they had an in-house boot that would suit your needs, slightly tan in colour. They are $215. To distress them, wear the [censored] out of them for seasons and you'll have what you want. Buy some soles for the shoe. If you do research, let us know what's good.

Confused. What does that mean? I think I'm gonna go this sunday though and see what fall stuff they have. Sometimes though there markdowns/discounts post season are so spectacular that I can't justify buying what I like in season... I bought a $60 shirt in one color in season 3 months later different color was $15....

it's for this reason I pay clothes at full retail price 0% of the time. those Penguin blazers I linked above sold for $450 a couple months ago, and now they cost $50? wtf? that's an extreme example, but basically all of my clothes have been bought when they were at least 30% off, often 50% or more. I generally buy decent brands, nothing too fancy (think Banana Republic, Brooks Brothers, Polo, stuff like that) but these 'labels' are large enough that good deals can very be found at seasons end. since I have very little concept of "the newest thing" I'm fine with this. the clothes I buy don't aren't usually the ones that will go out of style any time soon, anyways.

I agree. Unless your clothes and shoes are custom made or you want a specific item from a specific brand, you can almost always find what you want at a discount.

It's an order to buy the Coop brand shoes, I don't like KenCole! The only problem with waiting if you have my body (tall & thin) many clothes will be sold by the end of the season.

Where is this Barney's Co-op? I just googled it and the only one I saw was in NYC. That's on the right coast, I"m closer to the left coast.

Regarding blazers, I was at T.J. Maxx w/ my gf the other day and saw a very, very nice tan Ralph Lauren 3 button blazer for ~$40 on sale from $198 (or so they say)
I would def. go w/ RL for blazers, very comfy and stylish.

What if you have a muscular build? I have the hardest time finding clothes that fit right because my chest/shoulders/arms are big and my waist is little...everything looks funny because there is so much extra fabric if I get it to fit my shoulders.
