They dont play on fields.

Re: how much is homefield advantage worth in the NHL?
I'm assuming that number represents the average home/road scoring differential.

20 cents

Re: how much is homefield advantage worth in the NHL?
A considerable amount.
The other team will be expecting to play on ice. You'll catch them completely off guard. |
Re: how much is homefield advantage worth in the NHL?
During the 2005-2006 and 2006-2007 seasons the home team won 56.2% of the time.

It would help if you told us where you got the .31.
It could be goals or it could be a modifier for the power rating of the person you got that number from. |

I have no datamined evidence but from what I've observed over the last two years the lines are shaded for home teams by around 20 cents (which is what I meant in my previous post). That's an approximation based off of Bodog lines though so take it fwiw

Speak in terms of percentages. Do you mean that -2000 faves should be -2020 at home and -1980 on the road? |

NE doesn't get the same HFA and two teams that are even on a neutral field. |
Re: how much is homefield advantage worth in the NHL?
to henry17, who asked where i got the .31, it came from wikipedia-ing "home field advantage in hockey." to quote:
The following are recent statistical calculations of the home field advantage: National Basketball Association: 3.2 NCAA Men's College basketball: 4.2 National Football League: 1.44 NCAA Men's College football: 1.94 National Hockey League: 0.31 i appologize for my previous laziness. i clicked the footnote for the nhl number and it was gibberish. had i clicked on any of the other numbers, i would have seen that it is indeed a power rating modifier. to the first person who caught me misspeaking by being absolutely literal: hey yo! point for you. to the second: did you see his post made an hour before you and say, "hey, can i make that joke funnier?" to the third and the fourth: did you see his and say "hey, i can make their joke way less funny!" or was it a post count thing? |
