Favorite Classical song? audio neccesary

That's Bach's Cello Suite No. 1 Prelude, its by far my favorite classical song. Especially the last 40 or so seconds, it gets very intense.

I'd love to hear other's favorites, I'm not too familiar with classical music at all. Youtube or some other form of audio is a must here!

Ravel's Bolero. http://youtube.com/watch?v=Lnut9tB78BE

Another favorite of mine is Dvorak's Symphony No. 9(New World Symphony), specifically the 2nd Movement.

This is tremendous idea for a thread.

Bach, wow, you're really starting with the best here. For me, Bach is a towering genius of music, and my favourite classical composer, though my favourite ever piece is Beethoven's 9th.

I also really love Elgar. Elgar for you

lol, thanks born42

Beethoven's 9th is one of my favorites as well, rivals that Bach piece I posted earlier without question. Billy Joel opened his millenium concert with that actually, it was very powerfull. Not sure if he conducted it or not, and I can't remember what orchestra it was. (If you're interested I can send you the .mp3)

Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata and Fur Elise are also high on my list.

Elgar's fantastic. It's too bad he's mostly known for Pomp and Circumstance.

My favorite piano concerto is Grieg's Piano Concerto in A Minor. The opening movement makes my heart ache every time I hear it (literally).

The second movement of Dvorak's New World Symphony features an astoundingly beautiful English horn solo.

I used to hate Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition. Because of its difficulty, it was almost mandatory in any sort of orchestra audition. It's referred to as "Pictures that are extra bitchin'" by musicians. Now I can't get enough of it.

No time to post more tonight, but when I'm free again, I'll put in Brahms's Hungarian Dances, Dvorak's Slavonic Dances, Stravinsky's The Firebird, and more.

I'll also take a look through my collection for more obscure stuff.

Oops, just noticed someone else posted about NWS's second movement. Take note of the English horn, though! It's not often that this haunting instrument gets a solo like that.

Beethoven's 9th for me as well, followed by his 5th.
Bach's Air , too.
Imo the best opera aria is Nessun Dorma by Puccini.
When it comes to soundtracks it are the Theme of Once Upon a Time in the West by Ennio Morricone and Summer Overture by Clint Mansell from the Requiem for a Dream Soundtrack.

I find it very strange that someone with your avatar listens to Puccini. Not that you shouldn't. Puccini's pretty cool.

Sooooo many choices. One of my favorites, not an obvious one, would have to be almost anything from the Conan the Barbarian soundtrack. This may be the best soundtrack to a movie I've ever heard.
