How do I get rid of mice from under my deck?

I have a large deck (>1500sqft) and it is only about 18 incehs from the ground. After the winter, I noticed there must've been at least 10-15 mouse holes right where the fascia boards and grass meet, all around the deck. It gets pretty cold here in Toronto in the winter so I'm pretty sure that's where mice are coming for shelter.

What is the best way to get rid of them? I don't want to use rat poison because I have 2 little kids, who play out on the grass and also I don't really want all these dead mice all over my lawn. The neoghborhood I live in used to be farm land so there are probably lots of them. I guess what I want to know is if there is any way to make them not want to come live under my deck either by buying some product that is not poison and putting it around the deck or under the deck. Any other suggestions?

You can get these sticky pieces of cardboard that are like flypaper. Mice walk onto these and get stuck for good. They actually work, but if you have lots of mice, its going to take a long time and a lot of these sticky things to get all of them this way.

Standard mouse traps work too, although if your kids can get at those, they could cause other problems less serious than poison.

Ya, this is a good solution to keep them out of the house. And if its an outdoor cat, that'll solve the problem under the deck.

You really are not going to get rid of outdoor mice. Those guys will breed faster than you can catch them. A cat is the bets solution as they should leave the are if a predator is introduced.

my next door neighbor has an outdoor cat but and it catches some of them. But the cat is mainly indoor in the winter which is when the mice dig under my deck. And im not sure how mant mice my deck harbors but there are around 15 holes. The strange thing is i have yet to see a mouse although my neighbor says her cat brings home dead mice.

If it's a real nuisance, then you should probably get an exterminator. A couple of traps is not going to slow down an infestation.
