Eine Dumme Frage
 

So I have a friend who wants to know the "best" German word that doesn't have a direct translation to English.

I can think of German words that don't "look" like their English counterpart, but they all seem translatable, i.e.
Gift = posion

I guess there may be some German idioms that don't translate, but idioms usually are more than one word.

Sauerkraut isn't good because we use the same word.

Schnitzel and Blitzkrieg are great though, and might fit my friend's dumb question.

Troll, you are using the word Sauerkraut BECAUSE there is no direct translation... some enlish native speaker are using Blitzkrieg for the same reason.

And to vote for something more nice: Kindergarten. (ok, some say Kindergarden, but at least the first part isnt translated).

Soweit ich weiß wird Blitzkrieg auch nicht übersetzt, genauso wie Reich, zumindest wenn vom dritten die Rede ist.

I think there's an "inofficial" translation for "doch". At least I've heard "too" used in the same context.
