The whole magazine has the typical american way of 99% of pages being ads, so I don't think Cooke's ads are such a big deal. |

November issue page 64, then check out the ad on page 66. Not sure I want to be reading articles by this guy [/ QUOTE ] Roy Cooke is an excellent writer and player. He used to be a full time player but simply didn't want that life. He was a regular in the Bellagio 30-60 game for years. I'm not sure what he plays now. He started working in real estate years ago (presumably for a steady income and less stress) and plays poker recreationally. I believe Mason gave really good reviews to Cooke's two books. |
Re: interesting cardplayer article
Hi (three days ago):
I read the article too. It was handed to me by a friend of mine. I wasn't going to mention it since it's my policy not to give Card Player any free publicity, but here goes. This is simply one of the worse articles that I ever read, and Cooke certainly understands poker much better than this. Anyway, I'll let others elaborate. Best wishes, Mason |

Hi Dynasty:
[ QUOTE ] I believe Mason gave really good reviews to Cooke's two books. [/ QUOTE ] I only reviewed Real Poker II: The Play of Hands by Roy Cooke and gave it a 9 (on my 1 to 10 scale with 10 being the best). Also, as far as I know, the first book was discontinued and about half of the essays in Cooke II were originally in Cooke I. Best wishes, Mason |
Re: interesting cardplayer article
I didnt even read the article, I just thought it was funny his picture on the article makes him look like a 3 a.m infomercial host, then to top it off he has a real estate add directly under his article and directs readers to it in the italics at the end of the article.

Re: interesting cardplayer article
He plays 30/60 quite often still. I haven't seen him play higher even when a game 60/120 or 1/2 game was playing this fall. not saying this is a bad thing

Re: interesting cardplayer article
I hear he's turned to drugs

And not just November. For what it is worth, the November 7th issue has Cooke's ad directly underneath the conclusion of his article. |
