Saw something I never thought I\'d see (AC related)

I was planning to play the first event of the Borgata summer open. I had registered online for the tourney and booked a room (a suprisingly major hassle, BTW). Then the shutdown popped onto the radar.

I figured they'd settle at the last minute, so I went down. As one would expect, I spent yesterday afternoon, evening, and into the early morning playing cash in the new room (which is very nice).

Come about 4:00 AM, the floor announced that last hand was at 5:30. I guess I should have stayed up to see it, but at 4:30 I was zonked, not playing well, and decided to crash.

When I got up this morning, I saw something I never thought I would see, A quite, dark, empty casino. They had the whole gaming area roped off. You couldn't even walk through. I saw people heading in as I was heading out (the hotel was still open, and I guess people booked their vacations ).

The casino workers, and some of the locals I talked to are NOT happy about this. Well no one is happy, but they're worried and angry.

no offense to your OP title, but NOBODY has ever seen AC casinos shut down. this is the first time ever it's happened since gambling was legalized there in 1978.

once upon a time, the casinos closed at like 4am each day (weekdays i think, i think weekends were 24hours?)

Before 1992, I don't think there was any 24 hour gaming. I think gaming closed at 2 am on weekdays and 4 am on weekends, reopening at 10am...

LOL you nits know exactly what I'm talking about. not opening and closing hours, but full administrative suspension of gambling in AC has never happened before, since gambling was first legalized there.

Just to correct my prior information, prior to July 1991, gaming closed at 4 am on weekdays and 6 am on the weekend. Gaming reopened at 10 am. Starting July 1991, 24 gaming began as a trial and was made permanent in July 1992.

FWIW, I'm glad the "nits" pointed out what they did. I had no idea and thought the clarification was an interesting comparison to today's 24/7 world.

Just to let you guys know what it was like when Resorts International (AC's first casino) opened. The casino opened at 10am. Hotel guests were allowed in first with everybody else standing behind a rope. Plenty of security to prevent sneaking in. After about a half hour the general public was allowed in and it was like a damn bursting. People, including me, would RUN at top speed to get to any open table game or slot (not me). It was a hysterical madhouse. One time a security guard grabbed me by the shirt and said 'No running! You've got to leave!' All this while everybody else was stampeding like wild horses. I said 'Are you nuts?', yanked away, and disappeared into the crowd.

I think if you'd have invested $20,000 in Resorts stock a month before they opened it would've made you a millionaire.

The last governor of New Jersey was a guy I saw being interviewed on the street one day, as I was walking down Atlantic Avenue. At the time I thought, I'd like to have that guy as governor of my state, because he sounds very intelligent. But, I guess he got dumped for being a homosexual.
