Re: Examples of why your dad is/was awesome
To get this thread back on track,
My parents got divorced when I was in high school. My mom kept the house and my dad got a really [censored] apartment about 20 minutes away. My dad drove to my house every morning to take me to school. And the drive from my house to the school was only about 5 minutes. |
Re: Examples of why your dad is/was awesome
I was a HUGE baseball growing up. When I was in the 5th grade my dad took me out of school for week, and the two of us went to Florida to watch spring training games. We stayed in Tampa, and drove all over Florida to watch baseball all day. I think we took in 8 games over a 5 day period. The players were very accessible and the atmosphere was really relaxed, so I was able to get right up on the field during batting practice and warmups. I've been on several kick *** vacations since then (Spain, Italy, Hawaii) but this trip will always stick out in my mind as the best vacation I've ever had.
One of my most treasured possesions to this day is a scrapbook we made of the trip with pictures, autographs, ticket stubs, programs, ect. |

My dad wasn't amazing, but apparently at my half sister's birthday party he defended me in front of everyone when my step-grandmother insulted my career/lifestyle. |

Re: Examples of why your dad is/was awesome
My dad was on the cover of our County Paper for being the leader of a Drug Manufacturing/Distributing Ring he and his brother's ran. That's kinda cool.
And there were times when he and his brothers would come out of his room strapping on bulletproof vests and shoulder holsters, and carrying guns. Talking about "We gotta go collecting". That [censored] sounds kinda crazy, but it was cool too. (Note: I lived with my Mom so I got low doses of the craziness at that house.) |

Re: Examples of why your dad is/was awesome
My dad has flown a dozen times or so on the KC-135, which simulates zero-gravity (micro for the nits). He took some TMNT action figures up there so I would have toys that had been in zero gravity. Now I'm not sure why having toys that floated in midair should mean anything but back then I thought it was awesome.

When I was in Boy Scouts and did the Pinewood Derby my dad got completely obsessed. Sure I didn't get to do much more than sanding, painting, and placing stickers ... but the special order wheels, graphite, and cleverly concealed hidden weights led me to go undefeated for like 3 years straight.

Or are there are now so many trolls his posts no longer shine as bright? |
Re: Examples of why your dad is/was awesome
He's just too obvious.
His trick of making 100s of posts in the german/french forums to boost his post count is pretty money though. Also yeah, bizzaro oot isn't as weird when there's a dude who is dedicated to horse porn and bloody mangled [censored]. |
Re: Examples of why your dad is/was awesome
Dids,
Just admit you get your jollies out of seeing mangled dicks and nuking the thread before a co-worker walks in on you nuking the thread. This is quite possibly related to the thrill of public fornication. |
Re: Examples of why your dad is/was awesome
I don't wanna see mangled dicks imo. Especially at work.

[ QUOTE ] Dad hits a deer on the highway. The deer falls into some liberal, animal-loving dude's yard. The guy comes out of his house, freaking out about the poor, injured deer. [/ QUOTE ] boy, what a crazy liberal! [/ QUOTE ]I guess we missed the part where the guy was ranting about progressive taxation, reproductive rights, social safety nets, and civil rights while freaking out about the deer. Because I guess that would seem kind of crazy. |
Re: Examples of why your dad is/was awesome
My dad is awesome in many ways. But the coolest and most memorable story I ever heard was about my granddad. My g-mom always reminisces about him (he's been dead for 20 years) and told me about the first time he asked her on a date. They went to dinner and a movie, he walked her home, dropped her off and said "I'm going to marry you, you know." She thought he was crazy. What a pimp.

-When I became a poker player, my dad was immediately my biggest supporter and fan. Everyone else was skeptical, even as I was making a living and slowly moving up the ranks. My mom wasn't completely convinced until my WSOP final table. My dad? As soon as I heard I was making a living (a little over two years ago now) he immediately thought it was the coolest thing ever and started railing me online and asking me how I was doing and arranging trips for us to the casino and stuff. He started reading my poker books and watching it more on TV and asking me about those guys and whatnot. [/ QUOTE ] This reminds me of my Dad. Did you guys know that some online poker sites have special 'televised' tables, and there is a channel that broadcasts these online poker tables with commentary? Well I didn't, until my Dad told me he watches this all the time, now that I play poker online, to see what it's all about. He doesn't know much about poker either, has played few times, all of which have been since I started. |

Re: Examples of why your dad is/was awesome
My dad's pretty cool, definitely smart and funny. Apparently he dated Maria Schriver in college when she went to Georgetown. He's also worked for the Capitals for about 26 years and knows pretty much everyone in the league, now and back then. He got an invite from Rod Langway to his HOF induction, and always looked after Scott Stevens when he was a swingin' d ick 18 year old NHL hockey player without a clue. One particular story stood out however: my brother's favorite player back in the day was Al MacInnis so on his birthday he asked Al to give him a call at home, which he did, and it totally freaked my brother out. Really cool imo. Getting game jerseys and sticks from capital's greats like Al Iafrate and Don Beaupre was definitely nice too.
My brother decked Dale Hunter's kid when they were both around 7 or 8, the whole team, including Hunter, thought it was funnier than hell. |

[/ QUOTE ] Thank you for reminding me of a great Dad story. My parents were best friends in high school. They sat together on the bus, talking about their romances, etc. Dad went away to school and they kept in touch writing. At some point while he was gone he decided that she was the one. He came home for a visit. She was engaged. He tells her, "I'm going to come calling on you on Saturday." "You better not." she replies. "Bill, (the fiance), is going to be there." "I don't care. I'm telling you now that I will be there to call on you." Sure enough, he shows up. The three of them sit uncomfortably in the living room together for a while. Finally she gets up and calls Bill into the kitchen. She gives him the ring back. The rest is history. |

One more...
My dad was engaged to a lady before he met my mum. He is a huge Manchester City fan (a football team you may or may not have heard of). It was an anniversary or some important event between the two of them and she demanded he be there instead of the weekly Manchester City game. When he refused, she said 'It's Man City or me!'. He chose the football She later ended up married to a wife-beater |
