You are inside a stock exchange. People flitter here and there, doing this and that. On a giant screen, you see a display of recently traded market prices for various securities.

In front of you stands a middle-aged man in an evening suit, top hat, tails, and monocle.

(the giant screen)
The screen blinks as the prices are updated in real time. You see ABC stock trading at $20.00/$20.01.

You remember purchasing ABC stock at $100. Those were the heady days of the internet/covenant-lite loan/Y2K/BRIC bubble. A pang of regret gnaws at you.

>ask man about ABC
(the besuited gentleman)

"Sir! As a special offer, I am willing to buy your hundred shares of ABC stock at $40.00 per share, for a total of $4,000! If you wish to take advantage of this offer, please tell me! Thank you good sir!"

Given the information provided, of course you sell. Why couldn't buy back your 100 shares for $20 from someone else at the exchange after selling to Mr. Monocle?

Buy more shares at $20. Either it goes up or you eventually wind up owning ABC. Win/win.
