tricky spot against DerekJC

If ur responding to this u have prob played with me and derekJC (UTG) before. we both run 22/18ish and play tag with occasional bouts of craziness. i rarely play tricky vs him so i decided to try to tease out a squeeze. ryanbluff is in BB running 32/12/ with a low AF though i dont put much stock in these #s.

hu i shove turn for value all day obv, but set is in ryans range as well as a 5 but not enough to make
folding turn correct. fwiw derek tanked before betting turn.

i would make it 274 on the flop and call a push, i HATE shoving out the guy behind but it's the [censored] ideal flop for you to get it in on

Re: tricky spot against DerekJC

I think it's fine since he's probably putting you on a hand like 88/99 or even worse, and will often value stack himself on the river. AS played, I'd call river but wouldn't be terribly happy about it, but he can definitely be bluffing or shoving for value with worse IMO.

Re: tricky spot against DerekJC

also, he's probably very rarely double barreling the turn, and the river isn't a blank since there are Ax hands that are spades that are viable, but since he's rarely betting air on the turn, figure out what range you're ahead of on the river that he's value betting. i'm pretty sure he'd value shove two jacks here, is what i'm getting at.

I would almost always re raise preflop, which im guessing is yur standard play. flop also i think u have to reaise fold here and try to get some information in a multiway pot. River is a sick spot but it wouldnt have gotten to this point if u have played the other streets differently

Re: tricky spot against DerekJC

oh yea he insta insta shoved river- so i think Ax spades is less likely (anyone disagree?)

sauce123 09-11-2007 12:32 AM

Re: tricky spot against DerekJC

also i dont think he raises a hell of a lot of Ax combos UTG

i think him leading the turn with Ax spades is less likely

Imo river is a fold. Looks mostly like a boat.

What do you think about a turn raise?

Binbs 09-11-2007 12:47 AM

Re: tricky spot against DerekJC

Id rather just call turn and fold river.

I doubt hes gonna call with worse to a turn raise. MAYBE QQ or JJ depending on history.

my dilemma was that BB defines his hand 100% on turn. if i shove turn, sure derek may call with the same range of hands we get value from on most rivers- 88+ essentially. however we now get to value stack ourselves against BBs range of gutshots, 5x, 7x, Fds, sets etc etc

why don't you like a flop raise? not like bb is a mega donk or anything in all likliness.

Re: tricky spot against DerekJC

against a good, pretty tight, player i don't really like mixing it up preflop here. i'm basically always repopping his UTG opens with and only with AA/KK/AK/a fair amount of bluffs.

Jones do you really think shoving jacks in villain's spot is good? Personally I'm not sure whether shoving rivered aces is good.
