try this: http://www.mbrwizard.com/ (freeware, but never tried before) |
Re: MBR
MBR Wizard seems to only allow me to restore or backup a MBR. I think I need to create one. When I formatted and installed the o/s everything worked fine except there is no MBR so I need to kickstart the computer using a SD card.

Re: MBR
cant you just fdisk MBR with a Win98 boot disk? it shouldn't damage your MBR if theres nothing wrong with it and if there is it should fix your problems. Should work on Win98-Vista.
If you don't have a 3.5 drive you should be able to use a flash drive to do the same, though I've never tried it myself. |
Re: MBR
I was going to try FDISK but the computer has no floppy and wasn't sure if FDISK still worked for XP.
When I tried to google for information FDISK was always used for Win98 and recovery console for XP. I'll buy a USB floppy drive tomorrow and try it. |
Re: MBR
you might be able to download the recovery disk onto a flash drive and just change the boot sequence in bios to boot to the usb drive first. Depends on your Main Board settings but might save you from buying a drive that you really don't need.

Re: MBR
Have you tried the /Repair=1 option in MBRwizard? It looks like this repairs/creates a WinXP MBR. You may have to use the /ignore switch to ignore any warnings due to no existing MBR.

Re: MBR
I get Invalid Switch.
When I type in MBRWiz the list of options doesn't include a repair. |
Re: MBR
Ok this problem is fixed. I don't know what did it. I just realized that the computer boots fine now without the SD Card.
Thanks for the help. Now I just can't connect to the internet . Actually according to my computer I'm connected to my router I just can't so anything. Internet is fine for wired computers and I've turned off the software firewall so that isn't it. Any ideas? |
