At 38, none of my friends play this stuff. Maybe I will be able to form an online band or whatever.

[/ QUOTE ]

LOL. I'm 30 and happy to see that I am the 2nd oldest person playing this series instead of the oldest as previously hypothesized.

[/ QUOTE ]

I'm 36, so you're only the 3rd oldest. But some older people do play it.

31 here....geezer band FTW anyone?

I'll be 38 in 3 months, so there!

Amazon Prime FTW! I preordered through there, although I'm concerned they won't be able to fullfil all of them right away.

Couple of problems with Amazon; first, they are NOW listing the special edition (full kit) for $249.99, which is a full $80 higher than anyone else. I swear it was $169.99 when I checked the other day. Even worse-

Rock Band is in very high demand and the initial industry supply will be limited. Amazon.com is accepting pre-orders for this item; however, we will not be able to fulfill all pre-orders immediately when the item is released. We will fulfill orders as inventory becomes available, and we expect that all pre-orders will be fulfilled by mid-December. The estimated delivery date for these pre-orders may not be accurate when the order is placed, but we will fulfill pre-orders as quickly as possible as we receive inventory of this item.

[censored] that noise. I am going to call Fry's the millisecond they open on Tuesday and try to reserve a copy. Barring that, I will order from somewhere OTHER than Amazon and bite the bullet on the overnight shipping charges.

Tried the guitar at Best Buy today. Very nice hardware. Better than the SG and the Explorer and the Les Paul.

[/ QUOTE ]
Looks like the consensus is that the guitar sucks pretty bad. Odd because I liked it. But I posted this before I bought GH3. The Les Paul is awesome and definitely better than the RB guitar. Always hated the Explorer, though (probably because mine broke within a couple of weeks of buying it), and I thought that RB guitar was better than the Explorer.

However, you can use the Les Paul with Rock Band, though.

Re: Rock Band

So, if I can use my guitar from GH3, can I just buy the game and play it as, like, Guitar Hero 3.1, without needing the extra instruments? Or will I not be able to hear anything but guitar, then? 33, BTW.

The Best Buy a mile from my house is doing a midnight sale. They did this with GH3 and had way more product than they were ever going to move. I kind of figured that would happen with RB too but now I'm not so sure...

The RB guitar at the Best Buy demo in my town had a broken strum bar (which felt flimsy to begin with) so I played it with the D-pad. I didn't like the chart for Say it Ain't So; but the drums were cool to play with.

It really seems like this genre game is damn close to being a game with actual results...

Someone mentioned earlier that if you can beat expert mode on the drums, you should actually be able to play the drums (i assume you'd just have a solid grasp of the fundamentals).

Well... I'm sure if I had a game like this for the piano when I was a kid, I wouldn't have been such a lazy ass about practicing, and wouldn't have sucked so bad. Quite frankly, its a very effective visual way of learning.

Has there been any talk of...say...a way to learn actual instruments with a game like this? It seems just a few steps off of what the game is currently... Would something like that be too educational to be a cool game?

Meh, just hopeful i guess

Yeah, I see Amazon only has 3rd party sellers listed now, hence the prices. I checked my pre-order though, and it says I should get it by the 23rd, for $169.

I've seen TV ads for piano-like games for little kids that come with a plastic piano keyboard. No idea if they actually help the kids learn to play the piano properly, though.

At this point, I'm almost regretting buying GH3 in the first place. I may actually go and see what I can get for it at Gamestop or something just for kicks.

I really like what I've seen (and played) of Rock Band. GH3, while awesome, doesn't have NEARLY the depth this game seems to have.

I consider the vocals to be a gimmick. And GH3 already has bass. So the questions to answer when buying Rock Band are simple:

* Do I want to spend $170 on a game when I can get a similar game for $100?

* Do I want to play drums?

If you want to play drums, it's a no-brainer. If you're mainly in it for the guitar, I've seen several preliminary reviews of the Rock Band that complain, not just about the stratocaster, but also the note charts.

Re: Rock Band

I saw some kids playing this at BB yesterday with their dad on drums. He was woefully inadequate, even on easy. I didn't see that it had a foot pedal though, until I saw an ad for it in the paper today. The drum set up is indeed like a lot of practice pad kits (read: exactly the same as a lot of practice pad kits).

It looked pretty fun. Mostly I just wanted to shove the old guy outta the way and show him how it was done. Not that I've ever played the game, but I've been a drummer for 11 years, and his lack of hand-eye coordination made me want to cry for the future of our species.

However, if you're just wanting this for the guitar, there's probably a better, more 'hero'-ic route you could take that would save you some money.

Incidentally, you could also just take your 200 bones out to a pawn shop or Guitar Center and come home with a REAL guitar, learn some songs, get as many friends as this game requires, and play some ACTUAL shows, which would give you about 1000x the adrenaline you'll ever get from this game. ...Just a thought.

I'm a lefty. For guitar hero 2 on the 360, the 2nd knob for the strap was located on the back of the neck, allowing lefty's to flip the guitar and still use the strap. In the pics of the fender I have seen, it appears that they made the 2nd knob located on the guitar like the ps2 version had, which makes it impossible to flip the guitar and use the strap.

Are they really [censored] us lefty's on this?

Not to mention the 4 or 5 years it takes...

I'll never understand the whiners that says "get a real guitar". It takes freaking forever to learn to play for real and each new song again takes forever to learn even once you know how to play. And if you want to play "pro face off" against your buddy, he's got to go spend 4 years learning...

Clueless whining people that can't grasp the basic conceptual difference between a game and the real world.

AFAIK, you can't buy the game with just the drums. It's only available as a kit (with guitar, mic, and drums) or with the game only (which you would use with the controller or with the GH2/GH3 guitar).

The drums will be available separately, but not until next year:

QFT. I love walmart. I don't understand the people who go to EB games or whatever stores to get games. Walmart owns all.

Also, my earlier concerns about the lefty's were laid to rest. The plug for the strap actually screws out and you can place it on the opposite side of the guitar allowing you to flip it perfectly. Love you Rock Band! And drums on hard is [censored] hard!

Can anyone wiht the black gibson guitar for 360 on guitar hero 3 confirm if their plug unscrews also for leftys? Thanks.

I wouldn't go that far. I have tried the 3 Walmarts in my area (within reasonable driving distance). All three do not have the full package (360 version), they do have plenty of the actual game. One of the stores has the full version in stock, but are not allowed to distribute it until Friday. WTF is that nonsense.

Went this morning at 10. My Best Buy was overstocked. Playing through X guitar now. This guitar feels sooooooooo weird compared to the GH3 Les Paul. Re: Rock Band

This game is awesome period.

If GH3 came out just 3 weeks later, I wouldn't have bothered to buy GH3 all together. At least I can salvage the wireless guitar controller in my cramped apartment.

I just played on LIVE with 2 guitarists and 1 drummer. Waited for a while for a singer but never showed so we just started. I love it. Worked flawlessly on LIVE.

The guitar feels weird to me coming from GH controllers. The strum bar is hard to strum down and my arms/hands are tired only after a few songs. It also doesn't click like the GH ones. The frets feel like they are closer together so I kept screwing up sliding up and down the neck looking for the missing fret.

Also, now that I know what those 5 solo buttons do, I could probably do without the new guitar.

The cold sucked, but I got mine last night =P
Got there about 11PM, and got the 97th 360 version...they only had 102! Luckbox time.

Played a bit last night and had a blast. Buddy came over today and we were rocking a band (apparently Donkey Punch isn't an appropriate band name for Live so we had to play locally!). Anyone having issues with the kick pedal? It only seems to work sporadically if at all. I went as far as picking it up and squeezing it with my hands to make sure I was getting it pressed all the way. Very strange.

Any advice?
