% winning with AK
 

I was wondering if there is a winning percentage when getting dealt AK ??? Like should you have the winning hand 2 out of 5 times ??? I was playing at a $4 / $8 limit game over the weekend and got dealt it 7 times and lost all the hands.... Only once did I have a hit with a flush just to lose to a full house....

Against random hands or known hands the answer is yes. In a real life game their is no winning precentage you can compute.

Why do you think AK is also called "walking back to houston"? Because most players lose money when playing it.

I loose more money with AQ than any other hand. AK is actually a big winner for me.

Against a random hand all-in preflop, AK is about 66% to win.

Against a player with a range of any pair (22-QQ) all-in preflop, AK is about 46% to win.

All-in preflop vs AQ, AK is about 74% to win.

this month i have had AKs 72 times and won with it 85% of the time

AKo i have had 240 times and won 79% of the time.

this is no limit btw, i suspect it will be alot lower in limit.

You can go by random percentages of how often it would win, but you also need to figure in how it is played. You could actually win more often then you lose with it and lose money and vice versa. Playing it powerfully in position you will win a lot of pots with it. From the times that AJ/AQ/AK and other type hands play against it, small pocket pairs play against it and do not improve. The biggest secret with AK is simply knowing how and when to fold it.

Over 27,000 hands I've won with AKs 74% of times I've had it and 68% for AKo.

Theoretically AK is going to win against any two random cards between 65-70 percent of the time. It is really dependant on who you are playing the hand against though. Sounds like you really just kinda had a bad session. It is possible to lose with AK 100/100 times and its possible to win 100/100 times. Regardless it is one of the harder hands to play, but it is also one of the better hands to play. Keep playing it and it should win more then you lose, especially in limit.

Thank you all for responing.... I was feeling like I was getting unlucky and not out played! I only lost $60 during that run... I just felt the way I was playing that I should have won $$$$$ Also, I have never got deal it so many times in a one hour peroid.....
